Dracula’s Bride

I watched Bram Stokers Dracula & was immediately inspired by how gorgeous the film was & how deeply psychological its undertones were.

I also knew I wanted to stage a shoot reflecting some of those themes…the vampire is a monster crafted by rage & grief at the loss of his wife. The girl he haunts in this story is his wife’s doppelgänger & she is all innocence & goodness & not at all interested in his advances.

The story is thought provoking - what makes a monster? Why do brides wear white to represent purity when red often represents so much more sacrifice & struggle? What do we believe will protect us from our monsters & why? What if the vampire gave his blood to give life instead of stealing away the lives of others to fuel his rage?

I wanted to capture the nuance of the story with the idea of the idealized bride, but this time wearing red & armed with things that represent protection, sacrifice & overcoming evil. “Whatever our souls are made of, his & mine are the same.”

A love story for the ages…this time reimagined against the wild, romantic backdrop of Big Sur, all shot on film from my creative pov on Wuthering Heights.

It was my joy bringing this vision to life. Every inch was styled, sourced & planned by me…the kind of work I’m genuinely so proud of, I can’t believe I pulled it off!

All day long it felt like Big Sur smiled down on us from her waves to her weather & even her lighting, I couldn’t hope for better.

I adore the philosophical & psychological depths of stories like Catherine & Heathcliff’s from Wuthering Heights, I think it challenges us to ask questions like who/what is a monster & how do we know what the real monster is? Anyways…enjoy these photos. Sharing more later but for now I’m just so proud of these & would LOVE to capture your own wedding if you are looking for a similar vibe!
