Didn’t think we’d see a major hurricane this quickly, but Hurricane Isaias has rapidly intensified into a Category 3 hurricane overnight and is taking aim at the northern Gulf Coast!

Gulf Coast residents and visitors in areas like Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Pensacola should closely monitor official warnings and follow local evacuation guidance. Dangerous storm surge, damaging winds, and flooding are major concerns.

Weather fact: El Niño typically increases wind shear over the Atlantic making it harder for hurricanes to form and intensify, while often favoring hurricane activity in the eastern Pacific. So if it weren’t El Niño we could’ve been looking at a possible category 5 hurricane!!

I may be traveling through Alabama tomorrow, so I’ll be keeping a close eye on the forecast and any potential impacts inland. Safety comes first though!

Sorry I haven’t been updating but 2 months into college and I’m already loving it!! I’ve learned more about geosciences than I thought I would even in my first year already!
