Test pigeon pointing out faults in existing bird bath as I’m making what I hope will be one of its replacements. I’m procrastinating watching but its going for the whole spa treatment plus snacks. 😎 by @taz_marsh
Bowl and base safely joined (🙏) Basic Triage using an elasticated bandage to keep the base moist ready for the next stage. Weather change means thankfully pieces not drying out rapidly and unevenly. Note this bandage has kept two major pieces together and me originally, so a sustainable practice. 😂 by @taz_marsh
Working in garden in Indian summer sun. Basic form made, top bowl when clay is just dry enough to hold its form to be attached tomorrow. Then to do the fun (difficult) sculptural additions If the clay has enough moisture left in it to attatch safely. Wildlife gathered with only one botched landing a little too near by Silver the clumsy wood pigeon as I was working. In my old studio I had to worry about drunk and off their heads gig/concert visitors now it’s the wildlife who I have to guard my work from (a much nicer hazard). 😂😎😂 by @taz_marsh
La Vendange in leopard print and summer shadows. Had to pick grapes as wildlife have discovered they are ripe and honestly it was more fun than Wedging another lot of clay 😂 by @taz_marsh
The world may have gone crazy but the view out of my studio window Is delicious. And yup procrastinating as I wait for a piece to dry 😎 by @taz_marsh
I’m in my Blue period. Chalice bird bath with its first coats of underglaze. Praying it won’t continue to crack and blow in the first fire but looking forwards to seeing what further enhancements it can take on the glaze fire. 🫰🙏🫰 Ps don’t get fooled by the colours shown before 1st fire the blues get darker and the base should be a dark, dark bottle green but there are always moments of mystery 😂 by @taz_marsh
One has to be properly attired for a studio talk and meeting with Shelia of The Hackney Kiln. Sheila took the photo and Luna my overly familiar wood pigeon substituting as a hat. Follow thehackneykiln on instagram and watch out for further developments. 😎 by @taz_marsh
I’ve got two young foxes playing and trying to stay cool in the latest heatwave on my platform. I’m so delighted to see them again as it’s a long established spot for foxes to hang out. I’m extra delighted as the horrid spikes my neighbour put along the top of the fences to stop foxes and wildlife moving between the gardens has failed. Many moons ago I used to have an old fox that would come and sit in my kitchen as I made toast in the morning. I swear to god he had a gold tooth, sold crack and checked on his “ladies” in the morning. A true inner city Finsbury Park fox. Looks like I’ve got new members for the wildlife gang 😎 by @taz_marsh
Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus just opening for tonight’s seduction. Each flower only lasts a day or a night in this case. It’s Lilly like fragrance draws night time pollinators such as moths and other flying Casanovas. The joy of having a garden studio is I get the suspense of watching it come to life and the hope I’ve planted well enough for the drama to unfold over the year. 🙏 by @taz_marsh
I’ve done my best as a Bone/pot Dr and mended as much as I could, with the absolute certainty that this one blows if not on the first firing at least in the second. To dry to add the reliefs I intended so back to the drawing board to muster some form of decorative surfaces that honour the narrative I started with but doesn’t waste more time if and when she blows. Not sure that the top bowl will hold the weight of a chubby Wood pigeon as it lands with out flipping off but as my Bird bath series develops I will adjust the designs or teach my wildlife how to land gracefully and Parallel Park. (Feral pigeons graceful landers, wood pigeons need to go back to flying school).😂 by @taz_marsh
My lineage says I’m a Bone Dr but London reality says I’m a a pot mender. 😎 One of mine that traveled a bumpy road, had momentary salvation but met its cruel fate as it flared neck hit the drying shelf and shattered. So back to surgery, cut its head off and ground its neck with knife (very satisfying and proof that Potclays Miller stoneware tile body is tough). Thinking of opening a Private Clinic for Stroppy and damaged pots 😂 by @taz_marsh
Crack & Split. Vinegar and a prayer time 🙏 My fault due to build fragmented in time, heat waves and my dodgy mobility. Some times I’m not sure if my stubbornness is a curse or a blessing but I’m determined to finish this one and leave it to the Kiln demons to decide it’s fate. 😎 by @taz_marsh
