How do you explain what you do and how things are going in your business when there’s a little bit of everything mixed in?

All the CEO, marketing, financial, operations, and other departments rolls into one 😳🤷🏽‍♀️🎢

Just how I like it 😎🙌🏽

I went to Summerland for the lakeside views, local shops and historic steam train. I just hadn’t expected to love my accommodation quite so much!

I spent 3 nights at Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa, right on Okanagan Lake, and I could’ve happily stayed longer.

Here’s what makes it worth considering for your next Okanagan getaway:

🏨 Spacious suites

* Separate bedroom and living area
* Full kitchen for preparing your own meals
* Cozy fireplace and private balcony
* Beautiful views of Okanagan Lake

🌊 Resort amenities

* Outdoor hot tubs, heated pool and sauna
* On-site spa and fitness centre
* Beaches and waterfront walking paths
* Complimentary cruiser bikes
* Seasonal boat, kayak and paddleboard rentals
* Summer activities and family programming

☕ Food and dining

* The Bistro for breakfast, coffee and lighter meals
* Shaughnessy’s Cove for lakeside dining
* Full kitchens for enjoying meals in your suite

📍 A convenient base for visiting Summerland

I spent my days visiting downtown cafés and vintage shops, Summerland Ornamental Gardens, the museum and the historic Kettle Valley Steam Railway.

And yes, I spent a fair bit of time on my balcony watching the lake. Even the rainy weather made me appreciate having such a comfortable place to stay.

I’ve shared my full review, including photos of my suite, what I loved, things to know before booking and whether I think it’s worth staying here.

Read my Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa review through the link in my bio!

Would you rather spend your getaway enjoying the resort amenities or heading out sightseeing?

Travelling through Vernon for a few days? Here’s why I’d recommend booking a suite with a full kitchen.

I stayed at the Best Western Premier Route 97 Vernon while covering the Sundog Festival and BX Farm Tours. Between filming, visiting local farms and enjoying the festival, it was wonderful having a spacious suite to return to.

The first thing that caught my attention was the beautifully designed, contemporary lobby. And my suite had everything I needed for a comfortable stay, including a separate bedroom and a full kitchen where I could prepare meals with local ingredients.

A few hotel highlights:

• Spacious suites with full kitchens available
• Separate bedrooms in select suites
• Beautiful, modern lobby and interiors
• Indoor swimming pool and hot tub
• On-site restaurant and fitness centre
• Free parking and Wi-Fi
• Convenient location for visiting Vernon and the North Okanagan

📍 Best Western Premier Route 97 Vernon
5350 Anderson Way, Vernon, BC

My stay was hosted by Tourism Vernon as part of my travel assignment. Thank you for providing such a comfortable home base during my visit.

Would having a full kitchen influence your choice of hotel for a longer getaway?

What does it actually feel like to stay at your hotel?

That’s what I aim to show with hotel UGC.

A comfortable room, the amenities guests will use, food and drinks at the restaurant, and the little details that help someone picture themselves checking in for a stay.

The goal isn’t to make a hotel look overly polished or staged. It’s to create natural, useful content that feels like a real guest experience while still giving the property plenty to work with across its own social media and marketing.

I’m a Canadian travel writer, blogger and UGC creator, so hotel partnerships can also include opportunities for cross-promotion through my travel blog and social channels when there’s a good fit.

Looking for content like this for your hotel or accommodation?

Where else would I go to find BC brands with vegan options for my road trip…in BC? 🤔🤷🏽‍♀️

I hit up my favourite store @londondrugs - founded right here in the Vancouver area in 1945! 🙌🏽

First, I knew I needed several kinds of chips, because they’re so perfect for eating in the car, during a walk or hike, and as part of impromptu picnics (the best kind, I think!).

@hardbitechips - I chose the classic Sea Salt and Pepper flavour with the pic of Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver 🙌🏽 Founded in BC in 1998, Hardbite now makes its chips in Surrey.

I’ve been a big fan of these chips since I lived in Calgary…a few years after I worked at London Drugs stocking shelves at 5 am as a teenager.

Exotic Cassava Chips in Lemon Chilli to keep me drinking lots of water. Richmond-based Exotic Foods makes its cassava chips fresh in BC.

@chiwis_snacks - This woman-owned Squamish brand has been turning whole fruit into crunchy snacks since 2020.

@chocxochocolatier - Founded in 2014, Chocxo now crafts its organic chocolate in Delta, BC

@blissballs - These treats come from Burnaby-based, family-run Everland Foods.

What BC brands make your favourite snacks?

Yes, it is embarrassing to film in public, but I tried to remember that not doing so is my loss and I’m never going to see these strangers again.

Maybe it’s because I’m 45+ and doing whatever I can to make this travel writing/content creation career work for me, but I’ll try it.

I’ll do whatever is needed to be able to pay my bills and do things that are interesting and creative and bring me joy and allow me to support my rabbits and any local businesses or charity sets speak to me. taken in Confederation Park, Burnaby by @tazimcreates

The calming ritual you didn’t know you needed…to help you get out of “to-do list” mode and into relaxation mode.

Can you relate? I find it hard to shut off my mind after a day of work and chores.

I found this Organic Peppermint Tea from NOW helps get me to slow down. @nowfoodscanada

Even before I opened the packaging I could smell the soothing peppermint and always started feeling more relaxed.

NOW products are quality tested and can be found at your local health food store 🙌🏽

Do you have a ritual that helps you and your day?

I was gifted this product. All opinions are my own.

My bunny Tamarind is 7 years old and still full of energy and mischief!

Sometimes, I feel like he’s channeling his older brother who passed away…who was the biggest troublemaker and the sweetest bunny rolled into one.

Most people are surprised that my bunnies aren’t in cages. Why should they be? They’re free roam and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Any questions that I can help with?

Why don’t you get a real job?

Okay, why? Also, no this isn’t a real job and it’s not a hobby…it’s a business.

The freedom part is so important to me. And something that keeps me going is having new experiences and learning new things.

I’ve been a member of the Travel Media Association of Canada for less than a year and all these experiences I’m showing a dozens more were a result of connections I made through it.

I’ve been blogging and creating content online since 2009 or earlier (does Livejournal count?) and mostly had a full time job at the same time. But this year things changed - I didn’t choose how it happened, but I’m all in now!

It’s hard to not have my friends and family understand this (actually not new at all) industry and way of making a living, but Im pretty self motivated and have the support of people who do get it. :)

Anyone remember that song “get a haircut and get a real job?” - Get a Haircut

Who is really taking care of who?

These are my two rabbits - Magnolia and Tamarind.

They were rescued from @rabbitatsrescue - where there are hundreds of bunnies looking for their forever homes.

Any fellow introverts who also live content creation…despite feeling like you are just embarrassing yourself all the time?

I’ve been creating content online since 2009 or earlier…and I’ve done my share of in-person, on-air, and all the different things while sharing my lifestyle and travel content wit my audience and working with brands and DMOs.

Can anyone relate? I love what I do and a part of me loves getting outside of my comfort zone and pushing myself to do things that feel uncomfortable! taken in Burnaby, British Columbia by @tazimcreates

Here’s to enjoying your own home town and finding new-to-you local businesses to check out and support:

@mumbaiyaastreetfoods 📍4160 Hastings St, Burnaby, BC
They have so many vegan options on their menu that it was hard for me to pick what to eat! I chose the Bhel Puri. Can’t wait to go back!

@companion_bookstore 📍 4094 Hastings St, Burnaby, BC I love their selection of new and used books including a great selection of gift ideas and books by Canadian authors.

I couldn’t help but pick up a stack of vintage (from my childhood era 😬😳) The Baby-Sitters Club books.

JJ Bean 📍4299 Hastings St, Burnaby, BC - did you know they have a bunch of vegan options? And alternative milk options on their counter to add to your drinks?

These 3 places are all in walking distance of each other and on a bus route, making it easy to hop between places with ease.
