Pt. 2: My academic career has always been riddled with adversity. A constant balancing act between the tribulations faced at home against the struggles of excelling in programs where I was unequipped—continuously struggling with untreated ADHD. In my adolescence, my life existed only as a life knowing struggle. Honestly, the reality of my circumstances were bleak: homeless @ 15, coming out @ 17, dropping out @ 19. I did, however, have 3 things; my: insatiable curiosity, stubborn determination, and lion-hearted faith.

My HS guidance counselor, after looking at my credentials, told me I was “wasting my time.” Refusing to apply to only safety community colleges, as she suggested, I bet on myself. After a long discernment process and numerous acceptances, God called me to choose Boston College to be my home- against the wishes of my mom, my everything. Although exciting, I had no idea the tumultuous growth awaiting me. Long lonely nights reminiscent of desperate cries and confusion reinforced the one thing of which I was certain—God. When my feet grew too tired, The greatest Creator created me anew. Pain, transformed into my greatest professor. Thinking about the “time” I “wasted” reveals a greater truth about divine timelessness.

Only through loving myself, however, I learned how to truly love others fully and unconditionally. Like the phoenix, every death leads to a more enriching and fulfilling life. Over the course of my BC experience, I competed in dance and a cappella competitions. A vocal advocate against the many injustices plaguing our society. A faith warrior speaking life into my loved ones. I allowed myself to be a student to the many life experiences of every beautifully imperfect soul encountered. I graduated making Dean’s List 3/4 of my last semesters, and 3.5 on the Senior Year. It may have taken an extra year to get it right, but I had to do it wrong to do it all! I am all encompassing and cannot be constrained or defined- only experienced. I couldn’t have done this without the continued support of my family(born and chosen), the countless friends along the way, and the grace of the highest Creator. You can too💟
