CYA 2026! What a weekend! As usual, I didn’t take many photos, but I was too busy catching up with friends, making new friends, and listening and learning from the spectacular publishing industry legends kindly sharing their wisdom and knowledge, and celebrating @tmclark_author and the rest of the @cyaconference family who have spent the last 21 years delivering an unforgettable conference for authors and illustrators which has literally changed so many people’s lives - including mine!

It was very emotional closing the conference for what is possibly the last time, but the friendships, journeys and memories will continue on forever 🌳 🐊 📕 by @td_strachan

I recently had the absolute honour of being Quizmaster for the 2026 Readers Cup for Year 5/6 students in the Somerset/Lockyear region. What a blast!

There was lots of excitement in the air at Fernvale State School as 14 teams across the region were selected to represent their schools for the coveted trophies and medals. I think the cups of lollies certainly helped their quiz skills!

I left the event feeling inspired and excited for the future of children’s literacy after seeing the dedication and joy these children had for books. It reminded me of when I was in primary school and would have loved for an event like Readers Cup!

When I first met Tina Strachan in real life (only last year!) it felt like I’d known her forever. We instantly clicked, and sometimes it feels like we’re the same person. 😆

@td_strachan is such a kind, beautiful soul and so generous with her knowledge and time, and she’s always up for a good chat, which makes her the perfect addition to The KidLit Pod line up.

In this chat, we talk about parenting Gen Alpha, we chat industry news, and we do a few shout outs. And I’m excited to share that next time we’ll be joined by the wonderful Kate Foster @kfosterauthor in a regular KidLit Hang, where we’ll discuss similar topics and more!

5 hours sitting in one spot and no tech. Could you do it?

It wasn’t my plan, but when I sat down I actually felt gross at the thought of more screens, so I just ran with it. I found it surprisingly easy! And, trust me, there’s always more than enough going on in my brain to keep me entertained 😂

And because I was unplugged, I noticed the slightest flash of the gorgeous deep reds of ‘The Butterfly Women’ cover, the debut book from my wonderful friend and podcast cohost @madeleineclearywrites being read buy someone else getting their hair done. And if you’re an author, or know an author, you’d know how amazing that feeling is to see someone’s book being read and enjoyed in real life! All that hard work and dedication poured into creating a book and yet it feels a little unreal that people are reading them. So capturing living proof is the ultimate!

So, I think breaking my screen free time to take a photo (with the lovely reader’s permission) and share with Madeleine was worth it 🤗

And I did manage to finish ‘The Wondrous Tale of Lavender Wolfe’ by the supremely talented @karenfoxleeauthor which I can attest was stunningly beautiful and delightful and, well, wondrous ⚓️ highly, highly recommend. by @td_strachan

Kids need a break from the screen? Audio books are the best for this! Technically, yes, still a screen, but filling their ears with adventure and letting their imagination create the visuals is a wonderful way to break up a long road trip, or those loooong days over school holidays, or for those who love a good story but are daunted by allll those words and not quiet at the reading level, and can even keep them entertained while they clean their room! 😂

The full Wilder Zoo series is available in audiobook format and available to download from all online bookstores and streaming services or find links in my bio.

Looking for something to entertain the kids during the school holidays? Well, if you live in SEQ you’re in luck because I’m running a kids writing and craft workshop at the most gorgeous @the.bookbouquet in Ipswich.

Book the kids in for the workshop then check out the other wonderful events as part of the Spark Festival @ipswichfestivals

Workshop details: Imagine living in your own zoo! Where would you sleep? What would you eat? Who would you play with? Plot all this and more as you work through a story structure for your own zoo-based adventure, with spectacular scene setting, critter character creation and exciting escapades.

This 1 hour author event is suitable for children ages 8-12 years and all resources are provided.
Optional ticket price can include a copy of the third book, Neeka and the Great Search, which you can have signed by the author on the day.

Congratulations to the glorious @bethanyloveridgeauthor on the launch of her latest book ‘Josie Mack and the MEGA Division’, book one of an exciting new junior fiction series. It’s clever, it’s smart and it gently weaves in messaging of wildlife conservation and caring for our planet in a way that feels fun and engaging.

I was so honoured to help Betty launch this book at a very fun and interactive event, with wombat sculpting, drawing comps, animal calling competitions and wombat poo-shaped treats to eat. How fun! And the venue of @quickbrownfoxbookshop with the ever-supportive Anna and Teresa made everyone feel welcome, as usual!

JOSIE MACK AND THE MEGA DIVISION - happy publication day! Congrats @bethanyloveridgeauthor on another awesome book into the world this week. You’re a super star ⭐️
