I wrote “Impro-Vice” based on poetry by @violingsquared and @giancarlolatta for @oslmusic’s 2023 DeGaetano Composition Institute. It was premiered 3 years ago today with @bradlubman at the helm. A wonderful collaborative experience to work with Ling Ling, Giancarlo, Brad, the musicians of OSL, and mentor-composer @annaclynecomposer. 1.) My 2017 MacBook Pro, whose screen now only displays at this angle, is my last device that will run @finalemusicofficial, the music notation software program I used since I was seven years old that, as we all know, was abruptly discontinued. 2.) This old dog begins his journey learning (very basic) new tricks. I’ve finally found the time and space this summer to rise from the ashes and train myself in @dorico. Very excited to invite you all to a recital I will be hosting at the @winterthurmuse on Saturday September 12, 2026 featuring Violinist Eliot Heaton of the @philorch and @thomaseweaver, interim associate chair of musical studies at @curtisinstitute. They will perform works by Amy Beach, Aaron Copland, and myself, as well as works by our three Call for Scores winners: Sam Wu @samwu.music, Whitney George @whitney.e.george, and Dan VanHassell. Congratulations to @move_modernviolinensemble on the release of their new album MoVE Premieres! It is an honor to be featured alongside eleven other composers in a compelling display of collaboration, imagination, and new music performed at the highest level. I wrote “Extraordinary Instruments” in 2017 as a response to gun culture in the US. It is my hope that the piece can be listened to and performed in an effort to reshape that culture into one that truly does reflect the full measure of human dignity and liberty. 10 years ago ⏳🤯 @kineticensemble premiered “Egyptian Ratscrew Fantasy,” based on the fast-paced card game ♠️♥️♣️♦️🃏 It was such a fun piece to write ✍️ 🎼dictating an entire game and transforming it into a piece with themes for each of the suits. The most fun was writing for this incredible ensemble full of so many lovely friends 🎶🎻👯‍♀️🎻👯‍♀️🎻🎶 by @tdougherty1205
