Dolly has been a major part of my life since I was really young. My grandpa used to tell me that if I wanted to write letters to Dolly, to just write her name in the front and he’d mail it. Then “she” would write back and send me cassette tapes and letters back. I thought we were best friends! And my gramps, of course, wouldn’t tell me different.

My mom and grandpa wrote to Dolly as well when I was little and she sent an autograph for me that I still have to this day.

My mom and dad took me to her concert — the first concert I’d ever been to at around 5 years old.

I was allowed to watch The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas at a questionably young age but I loved Dolly and my parents and grandpa let me do anything Dolly related! I had a cardboard cutout from Straight Talk in my room.

In 2016 I got to see Dolly at the Hollywood Bowl, which literally was one of the best days of my life. Gloria made sure we got front row tickets and I was able to meet her before hand. It was surreal. This is someone who I’ve looked up to my whole entire life.

People encouraged me to tell her the story about my grandpa and the letters, but I knew I wasn’t going to be able to say anything. I didn’t want to bother her and she had a 3 hour long line. I expected to go up, have my picture taken with her and move along. Dolly however was so absolutely kind and spoke to me, told me I had beautiful skin (I will cherish this comment until I die) and was exactly who imagined her to be.

Dolly gave everything she had to all of us. I don’t think there’s a more selfless public figure her magnitude of fame. She was genuine, appreciative and she made everyone feel important.

The world is diminished without her presence but her influence will live forever in her legacy. I know we are all going through it today, and that’s a testament to the kind of person she was.

Like an eagle, she is eager for the sky.

A little late perhaps but throwback to a couple of weeks ago when we took to the road in Porta Patty, a rental car disclosed to have come out on the losing end of a fight against a row of freestanding toilet facilities. We traveled to Sedona to see the sights, speak with Sedona Sam, and spend the absolute best time with friends puzzling, shopping and drinking Arnie Palmers out of cowboy boots. 10/10 would recommend!! by @tea4tillerman
