Hi! I’m Sara, passionate about all things tea, including writing, teaching, and photography. I even grow tea plants at home!

Fun facts about me:

My outdoor tea sessions change with the seasons- I’ll switch up tea types and teaware based on weather and temps.

It was tough to decide what tea and accessories to bring on a recent autumn trip through Maine- we were hiking in the mountains but also walking on the beach. For one of our bayside walks, I decided to brew an aged white tea, for warmth and complexity.

I’d normally take thicker teaware to insulate the brew, but I was so taken with our beautiful surroundings that glass was just begging to be used. Not only can you admire the tea, but the landscape is visible as well.

Using glass teaware in chilly temps just means you need more immediacy with the session. Stay focused and sip. I also don’t like to drink super-hot tea, and the glass allows for a more comfortable sipping temp!

An anniversary tea story 🍵💐

For our wedding anniversary we decided to take a little trip to Connecticut, with our antique double happiness teacups and a small porcelain teapot I found in an Indonesian market. I used these cups in our wedding ceremony, presenting cups of tea to our parents.

We shared the same roasted Tie Guan Yin tea we served at our wedding, savoring sips and enjoying our quiet time together. We brewed the tea lakeside, on a beautifully speckled rock and again nestled on a cushion of moss.

We’ve created a tea ritual to repeat yearly, something special just for us. Meaningful tea rituals can be created anywhere, with sentimental elements. Even our daily cuppa is a special ritual, just for us.

My tea habits may have changed since the 1980s, but I had a love for the leaf at an early age!

My parents and grandparents always drank tea together, and I had a very 80s starter tea set. My dolls would enjoy a hot cuppa with some tasty treats numerous times a week! by @tea_happiness

More Iceland + tea ⛰️🍵

After seeing my other Iceland photos, can you believe this is part of the terrain? When driving in the remote areas, the landscape changes every few minutes. From icy and costal to dry and mountainous, to mossy and flat.

This is a peek into a tea session we had while hiking in the mountains of a national park. I was amazed by the technicolor rocky terrain, and plopped myself down for an impromptu tea session. Have you ever seen such contrasting colors on a mountainside?

When traveling, I’m always ready for a spur of the moment tea session, I carry a flask of water and a tea set primed with tea! Do you take your tea gear on holiday? by @tea_happiness

Ice-tea 🍵🧊

My Iceland tea photo series continues with tea by a glacier beach! Have you ever seen anything so crazy? A black sand beach, glaciers floating off in the distance, and icy nuggets in the sand. The setting was just begging for a tea session! More Icelandic herbal tea (with a black tea base), for a breathtaking nighttime session.

In the summer the sun barely sets at all in parts of Iceland. It definitely messed with our circadian rhythm, but allowed us to see beautiful places after normal tourist hours, like this glacial beach at 11pm!

The feeling of pouring warm tea on a black sand beach with cold ice and an icy wind on your face…it’s difficult to put into words. Definitely something to experience. Meet you there! taken in Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon by @tea_happiness

Waterfalls & tea 🌈 🍵

My first tea session in Iceland was at this enormous waterfall. Isn’t it majestic? We tried a blend of black tea with Icelandic berries and birch leaves. It was an interesting blend, but I have to play with the tea a bit to coax out more flavor.

But the location was unforgettable. Did you spot the rainbow?

The country has an amazingly diverse terrain, and many waterfalls. I’ll be sharing a few of our tea sessions from the trip, each location is completely unique.

Have you been to Iceland? Would love to hear about your experience! taken in Iceland by @tea_happiness

Grounding and softness 🌱

Soaking up gentle tea and plush moss. Outdoor tea sessions are such a full sensory experience! Here, we sat by a stream covered with mossy rocks, while a gentle breeze wound its way through the leaves. Doesn’t get much better!

A beautiful naturally soft and rosy black tea, downy moss, a warm breeze. A summer tea sessions at its best.

Soon I’ll be in a much different climate, visiting glaciers and volcanic beaches. I’m pondering which teas and travel set to take with us. What would you bring? Stay tuned! taken in Rock Hill, New York by @tea_happiness

Tea and rainbows 🌈 🍵

What a perfect way to round out pride month, with unexpected rainbows during our tea session. Hiking by an upstate waterfall, I knew we had to stop and make some tea. We were gifted a refreshing, misty spray of icy cool water on a very hot day. Beautiful little rainbows appeared among the water drops. What a special experience.

We brewed up a Jun Chiyabari special Himalayan harvest that I’ve been slowly savoring since 2020 (does that make it an aged tea?).

Sipping beautiful hot tea, feeling the cool drops, seeing the technicolor rainbows…a perfect afternoon, and a meaningful celebration as a proud ally. by @tea_happiness

A late spring tea session on a rocky beach allows for endless opportunities for engaging all of our senses.

Textures in tea are part of their mouthfeel- are they velvety, thick, thinner, maybe more astringent?

We often focus on texture of the liquor, but I like to also note the textures of the tea scene surrounding us- this rocky beach is the perfect example. Smooth and bumpy, craggy, rocky.

On this particular afternoon, we were taken by the diverse textures all around us. Chunky barnacle-crusted rocks, coarse sand, smooth pebbles, slimy seaweed…so many ways to interact with the landscape.

Take a moment, breathe, observe. Can you imagine how these textures feel, just by looking at the photos? taken in Sherwood Island State Park by @tea_happiness

More time for play 🍵🐽

Tea time can be play time when you get a little creative. Couldn’t we all use a little more fun and whimsy? I recently headed over to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to catch up on some new exhibits. I knew I couldn’t have a tea session inside, but I decided to have a little fun.

My tea pet Murray came along for the journey and we had fun sitting in the Temple of Dendur (no tea was actually poured), and took some fun photos in the grand hallways.

Tea time was enjoyed outside, by the splashy fountains. The tea was soothing and my heart felt light.

Swipe through for tea fun inside and outside the museum.

Taking time for play 🍵🌸

During an outdoor tea session where the little leaves gave all they could, I decided to have a little fun.

We were walking past a bridge in Central Park and I decided it would be fun to pour the tea into my cup in a non-traditional way. Not to drink, just to play.

Swipe through to see all the outdoor tea fun!
