As a low support needs autistic the misinformation and frankly disinformation going around right now doesn’t harm me the most -

it so easy to be triggered by what is being said but also look around who is and has been and will be impacted the most?

It’s time (been time) for some major decentralization in the autism community at large.

It’s past time that we combat the outdated, harmful and misleading information and listen, respect and affirm those who need it the most and who are absolutely worthy by just being human.

HBD 🎂 + Autism Awareness

This year has been a mixture of growth and draining.

I’m learning more about myself and how to meet my needs but at the same time… I’m still struggling to meet those very needs all the dang time.

This birthday I want and need rest and ease. Understanding and community.
Connection but low key chill.

This awareness month and beyond I want and need, Black and Brown visibility.
The most marginalized voices heard and listened to.
Discernment and critical thought…

Yall I’ve been STRUGGLING this past week!

I am so close to burnout feel it in my bones.

I am so tired, overwhelmed and I just feel my brain working slower… and not in a good way.

I’m trying to do all the things and I am hitting my limits…

Preaching about periods.
Y’all. Y’all. Every month I’m like - I really really hate this 💩

What’s the worst symptoms for you?

For me- along with just the physical symptoms of PMS my sensory overwhelm increases as well.

Like I know why we need one, but I just really rather not and even though I know it’s coming every month it’s sneaks up on me and smacks me in the damn face !

Brushing teeth. The dentist. Oh my!

i’ve got a complicated history with the dentist and brushing my teeth.

What about you?

when I was younger, it was something easy to do because my routine was kept in place by my parents. But as I grew older and the longer I was undiagnosed, I begin to have major struggles with dental hygiene.

I could never understand why I couldn’t just remember, I felt shame that it wasn’t an ingrained habit like everyone said it should be by now

dental hygiene is so layered and complex for some of us the amount of steps, the amount of transitions is the century experiences through the whole thing, can be some of the most traumatic two minutes of our day

and many people really just don’t understand and don’t have empathy or grace.

“We dont do that” “that’s for them…”

in fourth grade, I spent hours memorizing and copying spelling words only to forget them literally the next hour after the test

in middle school, I would cheat by trying to do things beforehand on the reading assignments or writing assignments or get my mom to type things up for me not knowing I’m also dyslexic

When I was in high school I wouldn’t be caught ☠️ admitting that I actually was struggling with things. I tried everything within my power to figure out, bend rules and to “mask“

because no one who looks like me who was struggling like me ever had an excuse, we were always the problem at least to my young eyes

When grow up seeing very little representation of what it feels like to live inside a brain like yours, it can really be hard to even recognize it in yourself.

Winning combo: late diagnosed neurodivergent + being a single parent

TBH, my struggles in the beginning of parenthood journey actually really let me into getting the diagnosis and the support that I have now.

I still struggle, they still struggle, but I’m trying.
