Year after year the New Lothrop Varsity Football Team host a Team Buddy game.

This year is no different.

This year’s Team Buddy game is THIS Friday, October 2nd, at 7pm.

The New Lothrop Hornets take on the Ovid Elsie Marauders.

This team, these boys, coaches, parents, and community continue leave us in awe.

The way they remember and honor Buddy means more to us than words could ever truly express.

They continue to carry his name, his memory, and his spirit onto that field year after year. They remind us Buddy is still very much a part of this community.

For our family, this night is about so much more than football. It is about remembering a little boy who loved football, loved his community, and loved his people.

And it is about showing these boys that what they do matters.

New Lothrop, thank you. Thank you for continuing to say his name.

We are forever grateful for the love you have shown us.

Let’s go HORNETS 🐝

Although this award has my name on it, this is not an “I” award.

This is a “WE” award.

If you are reading this, if you have prayed, if you have supported, if you have volunteered, if you have been in any aspect of our journey, this award is for you.

I wish I could share word for word, along with the emotions, what this mother shared with me in regard to the support we provided for them.

We want to present this award to all of you.

We cannot do what we do without you.

Buddy has taught us so many wonderful lessons. “We are better together” is one that continues to ring true time and time again.

Buddy’s senior class walked over to the elementary school during their Senior Rise.

They gathered around the tree that was planted years ago in Buddy’s honor.

And then they stood together in a moment of silence for a boy who should be standing there with them. Making the same memories.
Laughing with his friends. Talking about what comes next. Living the life DIPG stole from him.

Instead, his classmates carried his memory with them.

I don’t think there are words big enough for what that means to our family.

His classmates reminded us that even though he isn’t physically walking beside them, he has not been forgotten.

The tree….It stands as a reminder that Buddy’s roots are still deeply planted in this community.

To the Class of 2027, thank you for remembering. Thank you for carrying a piece of him with you.

This is the reality of childhood cancer.

I do not recall this picture This was us in the hospital, me holding Buddy, loving him through something no mother should ever have to watch her child endure. You can feel the exhaustion and fear. But what you can’t see in this picture is the strength it took for him to keep fighting.

DIPG stole so much from him. It stole pieces of his childhood, his independence, his future and ultimately, his life. But it will never steal his purpose. That is why we fight.

We fight so another mother doesn’t have to sit in a hospital room holding her child, wondering why there isn’t more they can do.

I still hold him in my heart the same way I’m holding him in this picture.

This is our why.

Hug your kiddos a little longer, a lot tighter, and more often.

Four percent. Heartbreaking.

And I have to ask…

How can this possibly be enough?

Because I know what happens when there isn’t enough research. I know what happens when there aren’t enough treatment options. I know what it feels like to watch a child you love fight a disease that has taken far too much from them.

I know because I watched Buddy fight DIPG.

We cannot keep accepting 4% as though our children are worth only 4% of the fight.

We need more research.
More funding.
More treatment options.
More urgency.
More hope.
More than 4.

Annabella is 15 years old, she just finished her 2nd round of radiation.

We cannot take away this devastating diagnosis. We cannot give these children the childhood they deserve. But we can help carry a little of the weight.

And we will.

For Annabella.
For her mama.
For every child battling DIPG/DMG.
For every family walking this impossible road.

This is why we continue.

Please send this beautiful girl and her family lots of love and prayers.

I am starting a fundraiser called “Flock For Buddy” in collaboration with @teambuddyforever! We are using flamingos in Buddy’s favorite color, lime green, to flock in peoples yards to spread awareness and raise money for children and families affected by DIPG and brain cancer.
