Introducing isometrics: a training technique where you contract a muscle or muscle group and hold it in a fixed position to build strength under tension. This method is particularly beneficial for tendon health, as it promotes tissue remodelling, increasing tolerance and resilience. Isometric exercises can target almost any muscle group and are frequently incorporated into endurance athletes’ training routines. taken in London, Unιted Kingdom by @teamhour7

The best core exercises for performance driven athletes and perhaps our most important one to date.

The core, or trunk plays a pivotal role in keeping you upright on the technical trails, ensuring your pelvis and trunk is stable is key to maximising efficient transfer of energy through the body thus aiding running economy, especially when you’re charging down them.

Here’s two exercises from coach @franchise_fit to keep you clocking up those KOMs and QOMs šŸ‘Œ taken in London by @teamhour7

Next in our series for Performance-Driven Endurance Runners is a focus on squat variations. Building explosive leg strength is a cornerstone of endurance running, helping to enhance the ability to produce force, stability, and efficiency on the trails or road.

Squats are more than just a strength-building exercise; they’re a versatile tool for improving movement patterns and increasing force production. In this instalment, we’ll explore two squat variations designed to challenge different muscle groups and support the demands of endurance running.

Travel protocol 101: Optimise your sleep while on the road

For a restful night’s sleep wherever your travels take you, consider investing in a portable white noise machine. While your phone can serve the same purpose, it also introduces the temptation to scroll, disrupting your pre-sleep routine. To maximise rest and recovery, we recommend keeping sleep aids and digital distractions separate. A small, travel-friendly white noise device is a simple yet effective addition to your travel toolkit. by @teamhour7

Introducing Our Strength Series for Performance-Driven Athletes.

With guidance from our in-house expert, @franchise_fit , we’ll be sharing key movements, sessions, and protocols tailored for athletes striving to reach peak performance.

First up: upper body exercises. Often overlooked by runners, these exercises are crucial, not just for building upper body strength but also for engaging the trunk. A strong core is essential when charging down steep, technical terrain and can even help you stay on your feet when it matters most.

Tonight at 18:00 @tomjolyultra goes again, taking on what is widely regarded as the greatest ultra distance race in the world @utmbmontblanc āš”ļø

176kms and 10,000m of elevation lie between him and the finish line he welcomed so readily this time last year, only now he’s more ready than ever…

ā€œLast year was a bit of a rush to find some fitness in the 5 weeks before the race. This year I’ve had a better run up, with a 12 week build up. Training has been more consistent with slightly less total volume and plenty of rest, so I’m feeling rested and healthy for the race, which is half the battle!ā€

We’ll be sharing as many updates as we can and be right there with you every step, strain and celebration of the way Tom 🤩 taken in Chamonix, France by @teamhour7

It’s official - @carolineultrarunner has been selected to represent Great Britain at the 100km World Championships! Here’s what she had to say:

ā€œI am absolutely thrilled to have been selected to represent Great Britain at this year’s 100km World Championships.
I’ve successfully stepped up my game in 2024, after missing out on the results I was looking for in 2023. To be rounding out the year with my second world championships is going to be an amazing finish to the year. For any athlete, competing for your country is such an honour!ā€

After supporting Caroline through a tough race in Paris, we’ve been eagerly awaiting this news, and we’re beyond excited that it’s finally confirmed. Caroline, you absolutely deserve this, and we can’t wait to support you every step of the way as you prepare for the big stage! taken in Great Britain by @teamhour7

Race RECAP from our very own @bethlm72 off the back of a tough day in the mountains…

ā€œI was definitely more than happy to be back racing after missing out on so much with illness and injury this year. La 6000D course is fantastic and the atmosphere is incredible especially on top of the glacier at 3000m, it feels like the Tour de France. I’m disappointed my body didn’t turn up on the day and felt really flat from the beginning however I’m proud to have battled on and made up a lot of places later on in the race. I was nervous about it but my hamstring held up fine and I’m excited for the next block of training and to decide where to race next.ā€

Fasted training has once again gained momentum, but is it advisable, even for elite athletes? While it doesn’t need to be completely avoided, there are few benefits and many risks. The main concerns with fasted training relate to the frequency and intensity of exercise. ā€œTraining lowā€ refers to performing a session in a fasted state, usually first thing in the morning. While there are some potential benefits, these sessions should be done at the first ventilatory threshold (where breathing rate starts to increase) at an easy/recovery pace, for no more than 60 minutes and ideally no more than twice a week. Identifying this pace can be tricky, and the convenience of training immediately after waking can lead to daily fasted sessions at all intensities. We’ve shared more on this over on our blog. Head to our stories to read all about it…
