I’m sitting in my hotel room bed @ 5:17am in Manchester, NH after traveling on business all week, it’s so very quiet, it’s so very dark. There is no light, no sound….it is so, so quiet, calm and serene (as Team Jud sleeps peacefully, protected 2 in Florida, 1 in Amherst, MA and 1 in Genoa, Italy (who is actually wide awake)….& a new day starts….25 years ago today I was scheduled to fly to SF from NY out of EWR, next week (& the many weeks to follow), I will board a flight without fear and I will continue to step on flights without hesitation, & with great confidence in our freedoms....it was on unseasonably crisp, sunny and beautiful morning in Gotham 25 years ago all our lives changed...forever. How could it be 25 years? I was 34, now 59, but I feel no different…. It feels like “just yesterday”...it always feels like “just yesterday” (to me). I’m so comforted in this feeling and state....as it is only just and right that it will forever feel like “just yesterday....”.

Never, ever forget, God Bless America and God Bless all the innocent souls we lost and all who sacrificed so much “just yesterday.”

You raise them to be strong, curious, smart, compassionate, giving, capable, kind, driven, confident and independent….& when successful, they leave. It hurts, but Mai and I would have it no other way.

This is 20! This is a student/athlete @ Amherst College! This a caring, giving, adventurous, aware, intense (genetics), competitive (genetics 2.0), stubborn (genetics 3.0), driven (yep, genetics again), mischievous, available and intellectually curious son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, teammate, classmate and citizen. This young man has taught me what a loving, vulnerable and vested father/son relationship is. This young man gave me the greatest gift - fatherhood. This is Wilder!!! Happy birthday, Wilds! U20 CONCACAF Championships in 🇲🇽! Dylan has an off day for recovery after 🇨🇦 came first place in Group C. He found a wonderful place in Puebla for us to a visit over brunch. This is 18! Oh what a year for our Dylan. Traveling the world, graduating high school, signing his first professional contract, playing in the U17 World Cup in Qatar, participating as a Training Player in Team 🇨🇦 World Cup Pre-Camp and now anchoring the U20 🇨🇦 team against the worlds’s best in Avignon 🇫🇷. Wow, how you have grown. As talented, powerful and special as you are on the soccer pitch it pales to comparison to the young man, son, brother, grandson, friend and citizen you are off (the pitch). You are thoughtful, intense, compassionate, driven, aware, quick witted, curious and oh so kind. Oh how I wish Stephen B. Judelson (grandfather) got time with you (& Wilds and Shugs). You get the intense & driven gene from him 😊

Team Jud is so super proud of our Dylan. To be invited @ 17 years old to Team 🇨🇦 ⚽️ FIFA World Cup Camp as a Training Partner is such an achievement, a vote of confidence, a rewarding experience and statement of where his soccer has and will take him in the future. The commitment is real, the sacrifice is real, the work is real, the grind is real, the early mornings are real, the travel away is real (& many never see it, but we do). Dylan keep charging and chasing (& Team Jud is by your side) as the sky is the limit. Vamos Dylers!!!❤️🇨🇦 ⚽️ ❤️ by @teamjud

Two balls, always two balls! One ball not enough, three balls too many. Bones joined Team Jud in 2013 (as we had recently moved back to Darien from Park City). He was a “rescue” from a reservation in Quebec. Ya see Bones was also a dual citizen 🇨🇦 🇺🇸. A perfect match for Team Jud. He was named when we got him as he was “skin and Bones,” but he would grow to 110 lbs of healthy, loving, loyal, crotch invading joy. Anyone who knew Bones knew how integral member of Team Jud he was. He honestly raised Wilder, Dylan & Neve as much as Maija and me.

Yesterday morning we awoke to Bones signaling it was time, he was ready, but we sure weren’t, how could you ever be ready to say goodbye to a family member? Ya see, It hurts as Bones represents a period of our life, our children’s adolescence, our family unit becoming, Team Jud. We were lucky Wilder & Neve were home (& Dylan got a quality week with him before heading to Nashville ⚽️) to say goodbye. Again, he was ready, we were not.

There wasn’t anyone who Bones didn’t love of either two legged or four legged variety as people could attest from Darien, CT to Winter Park, FL to West Dover, VT and I-95 rest-stops between. Oh that isnt true, those white standard poodles on Long Neck Point were not his jam, beyond that all love.

As friends know, Team Jud’s happy place is our home in Vermont - The Barn. While all of us love it, no one loved it more than Bones. He came to life in later years there. Whether it was long, mtn trail walks or simply sitting at 2,212 feet (yes with two balls in his mouth) gazing across the Deerfield Valley….this was Bones happiest place.

As we all hugged Bones goodbye, I was reflecting on how could we be so lucky to have “rescued” Bones and it dawned on me, Bones “rescued” (& raised)Team Jud.

Bones thank you for loving us so much and know it hurts so much losing you (it’s a good, loving hurt). A hurt all dog lovers have felt. Rest easy and run free chasing those squirrels and barking @ those bears at The Barn. You will always be with us with two balls, always, two balls. ❤️🐕❤️ taken in Winter Park, Florida by @teamjud

This image, this gesture, this love, this awareness, this recognition, this higher calling is what makes hockey so, so unique. I spent 10 years at the NHL, I met my Maija (my wife) thru hockey, my 3 children are 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 citizens, i have family in Toronto and what we all witnessed on the ice is what makes this game far more than what is played on a sheet of ice. These two nations left it all on the ice today, & showed the world their skill, passion and love of brotherhood and country. Tomorrow morning they will board flights back to the States (via Miami, not NYC due to blizzard ❄️) and become teammates again. But the real winner today was not USA, not Canada, not the sport of hockey….the real winners were these two beautiful, little children and “Johnny Gs” family who got to see 20+ selfless individuals remember, recognize and celebrate something far more important than a gold or a silver. by @teamjud

“You Had Me When You First Smiled……. Forever!” 20 years, 3 children, 2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 bearded dragon, 1 bunny rabbit, 1 corn snake, 1 gerbil, 50 mice (see snake), hundreds of crickets (see bearded dragon), 1 guinea pig, 1 gold fish (shhhh, actually 15+ but don’t tell the 3 children), 4 houses, 1 loft, 11 cars, 5 moves & counting, (Tribeca, Darien, Park City, Darien 2.0 Winter Park…), 2,147 ⚽️ games and counting, 1 Covid retreat to The Barn (VT), thousands of chairlift rides, millions of biz miles traveled, not enough lazy days, thousands of before dawn java chats, many true friends, countless memories & many years ahead.
