If you're going to get dumped, there are far worse places for that to happen than at a Dairy Queen, where you can at least treat yourself to some break-up ice cream! That potent mixture of the sad & the sweet is at the achy-breaky heart of queer Salvadoran singer-songwriter Jandrou's (@jandrou_) new English-language single "Crying At The Dairy Queen," a post-split anthem that finds the beauty in nostalgia and embraces the freedom of a new era. Fittingly, the single is something of a re-introduction to the artist who last released new music in 2024 with the EP Ashes To Ashes, calling it a "bridge track" that will pave the way to a more polished sound take center stage in his forthcoming debut album Handsome In Pink, due out in 2027. But he hasn't just evolved sonically: "Crying At The Dairy Queen" comes complete with some gorgeous visuals courtesy of Argentinian filmmaker Francisco Passuelo, telling a cinematic story of love lost & new sense of purpose found. It also happens to be super sexy, showing how the bedroom is both a place of intimacy and solitude amid recollections of a doomed romance. Queerty is honored to exclusive premiere the song's brand-new video, which you can watch below! And in celebration of the release, we thought it was the perfect time to invite Jandrou into the hot seat for our long-running Q&A series, Dishin' It. In our conversation, the rising pop star opens up about his lack of queer representation growing up in El Savador, secrets from the set of the eye-catching new video, and why he's a firm believer in the idea that you should "take as many naked pictures of yourself while you’re young."
