HELLOooooo BOOKSTAGRAM!!! YOUR FAVOURITE TEAPOTTERSSS ARE BACK IN TOWN AGAIN!
•
March with us 😏 through new books and things that we have planned and have in store for you! •
The older one of us just recently finished her degree—a four year English Major— so we thought we should pick up our reading just where we left it. If we say we didn’t read through the last two years of absence it will be a terrible lie! But the two of us hardly had time to get together and take pictures of what we read. Yes! such is life! Sometimes you have to give up/ pause your hobbies. But Hellllooooo we are finally back.
•
We have missed all of you. The challenges. The suggestions. The long bookish talks! So let’s catch up over some tea 😉 ☕️ •
We are currently reading Madame Bovary. I read it a few years ago but this time it is special because this specific version is translated by Eleanor Marx-Aveling! Yes! Karl Marx’s daughter! I mean who better to write ill of the bourgeoisie, right? I cannot wait to share the details with you after reading :)
•
Have you read Madame Bovary? Do you have any other Flaubert suggestions for us? Or do you simply want to say hellooo 😀 Pick that broomstick And fly into our DMs! 😀 •we are a tad bit too excited here•

P:S: no flowers were tortured in the making of this photo. The sunflower is one year old and stolen from a field in Tuscany. It was living with my other treasured flowers and died a happy death with roses!

While Castle hopping yesterday, we ran/ walked into a book store. My friend who is obsessed with Pink and Wuthering Heights turned 21 and guess what I found for her while hunting for gifts! Yes! A special edition of Bronte with engraved quotes! It’s been a while since we posted. Hello Bookstagram! We’ve missed posting. But carrying around a library with you when you travel isn’t ideal 😭😭😭. .
Missing my bookstagram partner, posing and photographing at the same time is no cake walk! .

Happppy Valentines dayyy bibliophiles!!! ❤️ (I don’t really celebrate) but... here’s one of those tear jerker, guilty pleasures of mine.
I love letters! I think they are the best gift that a loved one could ever give you.
Fun fact: In 2012 end my best friend went to Australia for one and a half months and wrote me a bunch of letters to open on special days. (This was when we thought the World would end). She was of course inspired by this book. .
.
.
I won’t giveaway the plot or say much about the book, I’ll just put it like this. If you want to bawl your eyes out, and are looking for a cheesy romance- this is for you! Also don’t forget to watch the film starring Hillary Swank and Gerard Butler!!!

“You forget everything. The hours slip by. You travel in your chair through centuries you seem seem to see before you, your thoughts are caught up in the story, dallying with the details or following the course of the plot, you enter into characters, so that it seems as if it were your own heart beating beneath their costumes.” .
.
.
According to Flaubert, Emma Bovary’s passion and imagination comes from reading romance novels. I bet most of you bibliophiles out there can relate to how a book teleports you, and makes you feel things you haven’t felt before. .
.
.
Though it was termed a rather controversial piece of literature due to the protagonists promiscuity, I have always loved how human Emma is- and how deeply she falls and loves. Towards the end she broke me down into tears...

I only heard about Brooklyn because of the movie of its name. Then borrowed this very book from a bookworm friend!
If you’ve been following us for quite a while you would know that we are suckers for anything vintage, anything old, anything from a century or two or ten before us! .
.
.
Eilis’s struggle to choose between the two lives offered to her, love- heartbreak takes you on an emotional journey. As I read it on I realized that her story is not just a love story but that it provides inspiration to anyone hoping to make it on their own. .
.
.
After the book, watch the 2015 movie nominated for the Academy Award for the Best Picture ! It won’t let you down.

“He felt that she wanted the soul out of his body and not him. All his strength and energy she drew into herself through some channel which united them. She did not want to meet him so that there were two of them man and woman together. She wanted to draw all of him into her. It urged him to an intensity like madness which fascinated him as drug-taking might. He was discussing Michael Angelo. It felt to her as if she were fingering the very quivering tissue the very protoplasm of life as she heard him. It gave her deepest satisfaction. And in the end it frightened her. There he lay in the white intensity of his search and his voice gradually filled her with fear so level it was almost inhuman as if in a trance.”
-Sons and Lovers, D.H. Lawrence .

“Each time I told my story, I lost a bit, the smallest drop of pain. It was that day that I knew I wanted to tell the story of my family. Because horror on Earth is real and it is every day. It is like a flower or like the sun; it cannot be contained”
.
.
.
The lovely bones by Alice Sebold is a heart wrenching story about abuse and dealing with grief. Every time I read it I end up in a sad place, wishing things could have been different for Susie. I will not give too much away, if you haven’t read already. .
.
.
The 2009 film starring Saoirse Ronan in the lead is indeed a beautiful adaptation of the story.
.
.
.
Whatever said and done, I took home one message from the book. Do not remain silent, you have the choice to say no and call it out on monsters. Stand up for your loved ones, always ensure that justice is served for those who are silenced and deprived of their rights.
.
.
Silence is not an option. Open up to your loved ones, share your story with those around you. The pain gets easier to bear, the more you share. .

Happpy New Year Bibliophiles!!!! ❤️ .
.
.

Started the New Year with a flu, and a much loved classic to keep the my demons at bay! Cannot move around much doing elaborative shots because *cough* *cough*. But this picture here captures one of my favorite colours, favorite wild flowers (on days like this I like them better dead and pressed), and one of my favorite heirlooms. .
.
.
Need to re-read Pride and Prejudice for class, yet here I am binge watching Cable Girls and reading Sense. Please talk some sense into me someone.
.
.
.
The plot revolves around two sisters Elinor and Marianne and their Romantic interests. I will not spoil it for you, but if you watch the 1995 film starring Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet and Alan Rickman immediately before or after (I prefer after) reading the story will surely stick with you for quite a long time.

We are on a tiny break as my sister, (the one sleeping on the books)is having her GCE OL s for nine days and as her (school) books occupy most of her time these days!

@elizabeth_sagan tagged us a while back on the. #unreadbooks challenge. And I thought to finally let you in on at least ten of the books that we haven’t read (yet), HELLO NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS!
1. Little Women -Louisa May Alcott ( I’ve only read the little house on the Praire- never got on to finish reading all of it)
2. Gone with the Wind. I bought the book two years back to watch before the movie. Didn’t read it yet. Didn’t watch the movie because of that!
3. The time traveler’s wife- watched the movie and never read the book

4. Anna Karenina- I’ve only read a translation, and not the original book. Watched and fell in love with the movie and wished I had read it, but never did!
5. Inferno- I was a crazy Dan Brown fan, for quite a long time and read and kept tabs up to Lost Symbol. Somehow or the other I started reading Inferno and stopped because I wanted to read Divine comedy before that. Read Divine Comedy. Never went back to Dan.
6. Midnight’s Children- yes I am yet to read Rushdie’s all time favourite
7. The Bell Jar- I love Plath’s poetry, downloaded a kindle version of belljar when I found out she had written it, never got around to reading it!
8. A clockwork orange. Well there is a ridiculous story behind it. Somehow or the other I watched the entire movie without sound, (there was something up with the audio and I thought it was a mimic of a silent movie) and only recently during a discussion in the class did I find out that it wasn’t 😅. Should definitely read the book now that I don’t know what exactly happened.
9. The Little Prince- I read the excerpts of the books and loved it, but never got to actually own/ read the book.
10. The colour purple- I bought the colour purple two years ago, and it is still on my unread books pile. I’ll read it I promise! .

Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta. She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.  .
.
.
Lolita is one of my all time favorites, definitely in the top five because of the way it is written. Written as a confession in Humbert Humbert’s perspective it brings forth a series of repressed emotions and the longings from his past. HH who is driven by sexual longing for the better part of the novel is often termed a paedophile by many, would indeed be categorized the same if one chooses to ignore his past. Yet, the circumstances that make him attracted to nymphets often go ignored. .
.
.

The story is heart wrenching, you try to hate Humbert but end up pitying him and sympathizing his desperation considering his past and his realization towards the end of the novel. I won’t give you any spoilers let’s stop at the fact that the prose is seductive, seductive enough to keep you reading it from cover to cover in the span of a few hours. .
.
.
I loved the 1997 film adaptation of the book. You should watch it if you haven’t already. .
.
I would love it if you could suggest me some other Nabokov books! .

Thé Alchemist was the first Paulo Coelho book I read, and it made me fall in love with his soulful and inviting writing style. But as I read a couple of more books of his, it felt like he deals with the same subject matter in twists. Yet, this is one my Coelho favorites. .
.
By the river of Piedra is a story of love and loss and finding yourself. Pilar the protagonist resonates with our inner craving to explore and to be independent- and our constant struggle with letting go, and leaving behind the things we love. As she encounters a childhood friend in a strange city, and falls in love- she is prompted to explore the altruism of love. The book is simple, yet makes you think- just like the Alchemist. It takes you on an emotional and rational journey through the protagonist. .
.
.
What’s you favorite Paulo Coelho book? .
