In Loving Memory of Maribel Malit❤️

Our hearts are broken with the sudden passing of Maribel Malit — a member of our gym family from the very beginning.

Maribel was one of our first members ever — before we had a reputation, before we had a track record, she showed up and believed in what we were building. She was even in our very first social media video, right alongside us as we took those first steps.

She trained with a work ethic that set the tone for what this gym would become. Her boxing technique was sharp, disciplined, earned. But what made Maribel unforgettable wasn’t just what she did in the gym — it was who she was outside of it. A gifted artist. A voice that stopped people in their tracks. A friend to everyone who crossed her path, members and owners alike.

Maribel didn’t just join our community. She helped build it.

Our hearts are with her family and everyone who loved her.

There are moments as a Sensei that remind me exactly why I started STRIKING 101 in 2012.

One of my proudest is watching Joshu Ernie “Narcos” Orozco grow from one of my very first students into a Kickboxing Champion, Team USA fighter for WMO, STRIKING 101 Black Belt, my Joshu, and one of the most loyal people I have ever had beside me.

Beyond every title, Ernie is family.

To now see him leading the striking program at Technique Training, teaching others, and passing down the knowledge and values he has gained through all these years means more to me than I can explain.

I’m also incredibly proud of Laquan “Day Walker” Darling, my Flex Fight Series Champion, who will step onto one of the biggest stages in the world — Madison Square Garden on September 26th for Flex Fight Series.

From the dojo to Madison Square Garden. That is what growth, hard work, and belief can create.

But I also have to take a moment to recognize Coach Brenda, because what she has built with Technique Training is truly special.

Watching Brenda take a vision and turn it into a real academy, a real team, and a real home for people to grow has made me extremely proud. Building something from the ground up takes courage, discipline, sacrifice, leadership, and heart — and she has shown all of that.

What makes me even prouder is seeing the culture she is creating. She is not just running a gym. She is creating a place where people are being developed, supported, challenged, and given an opportunity to become better versions of themselves.

To watch Brenda lead, to watch Ernie teach, and to watch athletes like Laquan rise under that roof is a beautiful thing to witness.

As a Sensei, the greatest reward isn’t only producing champions.

It’s watching your students become leaders, teachers, mentors, and builders themselves.

Seeing Brenda create Technique Training and watching Ernie, Laquan, and the entire team continue to grow reminds me that the knowledge, values, and lessons we pass down are meant to live beyond us.

That is legacy. That is family. That is what martial arts is truly about.

Two big updates for our Technique BJJ team! 🥋

We’re excited to introduce a No-Gi ranking system, giving our no-gi athletes the opportunity to earn promotions and be recognized for the hard work they put in every day on the mats.

We’re also adding a 5th weekly Jiu Jitsu class!
📅 Fridays at 6:30 PM
This will be an Open Mat, giving you extra time to roll, sharpen your techniques, get quality live rounds in, and keep improving. All experience levels are welcome.

Our BJJ community continues to grow, and we’re grateful to everyone who’s been a part of it.
