Juan Atkins. The man, the music, the legend, the one who defined an entire culture.

He pushed the boundaries of what we call techno, building a framework for a sound that knew no limits. As one of the Belleville Three, he gave us everything we have now: the events, the late nights, the dark rooms full of strangers becoming friends pushing though oppression and defining inclusivity. Most of all, he gave us the drive to keep pushing what music can be.

With this great loss, we reflect on how deeply Juan shaped so many DJs, artists, and producers. He was an inspiration without ever trying to be one. He simply built the future and let the rest of us find our way into it.

Rest in peace, Juan. Without you, there would be no Techno Snobs, and no techno as we know it today.

Snobcast | Episode 42 | VNLO

VNLO is a DJ, producer, and Techno Snobs resident with a taste for the harder side of techno. Blending hard Techno, Schranz, Industrial, and hard dance, he believes a set should take you on a journey, bringing together different sounds and unexpected turns while keeping the energy high. For his October Snobcast, he had fun taking things darker than usual, leaning into industrial sounds and the Halloween mood—a chance to explore the darker side of his sound.
