Picture today from my elective course ‘Reggae & Colonialism.’ Covered a brief history today on the origins of Dembow from Shabba Ranks (Steely & Clevie) and the Caribbean sub-genres to Pop Music examples worldwide. Then had students program their own Dembow inspired beats 🎧 by @ted_ganung

"Missing you" up for Grammy consideration!! Thank you @ted_ganung for reaching out to work on something and just being open to collaborate 🙌🏼 We came up with such a fun organic song. Was missing my boo at the time when he was traveling and just wrote from the heart.

Much love to @getodos for pairing us up in the AI experiment.. You just never know ..
This is a win for me 🙏🏼🌌

Honored to have five projects up for consideration for the 69th Annual Grammy Awards.

From reggae and global music to alternative and R&B, these projects represent years of creating, collaborating, and staying true to the music.

Big love to @stefkalloo @iamjahbami @azizziromeo @isaacfaith718 for being part of the journey. Grateful for the music, the community, and everyone who continues to support @deepervisionrecordings .

Independent music. Real connections. Always creating.

𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗙𝗨𝗟 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗣. 🙏🏾🎶

I’m not naïve about walking away with a GRAMMY. This is consideration, not a nomination… but it’s still a step worth celebrating. Much love and raspect to Ted Ganung for believing in the music and submitting our work.

To the youths I work with daily: these possibilities aren’t beyond your reach. Reality doesn’t care about feelings, but that shouldn’t stop us from dreaming, doing the work and celebrating our progress.

This is also why I believe Calypso deserves recognition as a main genre, with room for its many expressions. To me, “My Favorite Place” is Calypso R&B. As our music travels, our identity should travel with it. 🇹🇹

Now allyuh, 𝗚𝗢 𝗥𝗨𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗨𝗣! 🔊 Most of my supporters aren’t Academy voters, but you can stream “My Favorite Place” 🎵🎵 Jah Bami x Ted Ganung, play it loud and share it.

You listening and loving the art I send into the world? That’s an award I’d gladly receive every day.

Spent half my summer in Trinidad for family, but I stayed busy in the studio building the Love Is In The Air Riddim! 🇹🇹🎶

The idea hit after a poetry session at @songhaistudio, where real-life reflection sparked a new melody. The next day, a ukulele progression came to life. We tracked the ukulele, acoustic guitar, and bass right back at Songhai with engineer @konataalleyne.

We already have a pure 🔥 track locked in from the amazing songwriter @azizziromeo. In this video, you can hear the maestro @modupeonilumuzik laying down live percussion layers.
