⚠️📢 Drug checking services in Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland have found PMMA in pills sold as MDMA.

👉 PMMA is an amphetamine that is chemically related to MDMA.

💊 Unlike MDMA which has an onset time of 30-60mins, PMMA takes between 1-2.5 hours, which can lead people to re-dose, increasing the risk of overdose.

👀 So far, 7 pill presses have been identified as containing PMMA, but this doesn’t mean other presses are unaffected.

🚨 Durante los últimos meses, diferentes servicios europeos (Países Bajos, Suiza, Austria y Bélgica) de análisis de sustancias han identificado PMMA (parametoximetanfetamina) en pastillas vendidas como MDMA.

Las pastillas identificadas en estos países no tienen todas el mismo logotipo ni el mismo color.

ℹ️ Esto es importante por dos motivos. Por una parte, muestra que la presencia de PMMA en el mercado europeo no está relacionada únicamente con un determinado diseño. Por otra parte, significa que no podemos saber qué contiene una pastilla simplemente mirando su color, forma o logotipo.

Si tienes alguna de las pastillas incluidas en las alertas europeas, nuestra recomendación es que no las consumas hasta analizarlas.

💊 Que una pastilla no aparezca en estas alertas no significa que no pueda contener PMMA. Las imágenes permiten reconocer pastillas que ya han sido analizadas, pero no sirven para determinar el contenido de otras que tengan un aspecto diferente.

Dadas las características del mercado de la MDMA y la circulación de sustancias entre diferentes países, algunas de estas pastillas podrían llegar también a España. Por tanto, es importante saber reconocerlas si te las encuentras.

Gestern war der Internationale Drug Checking Day und wir haben einen spannenden Einblick in die Technologien bekommen, die bald zur Analyse von psychoaktiven Substanzen genutzt werden könnten. 🔬✨

Das HPLC-Analysegerät (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) spielt eine zentrale Rolle, wenn es darum geht, die Reinheit von psychoaktiven Substanzen zu überprüfen. Wie funktioniert das? Das Gerät nutzt eine Flüssigkeit, die durch eine spezielle Säule gepumpt wird. Wenn die Substanz durch die Säule geht, wird sie in ihre einzelnen Bestandteile zerlegt – und zwar je nach chemischen Eigenschaften. So lässt sich genau bestimmen, welche Stoffe in der Probe enthalten sind, wie rein sie sind und ob gefährliche Verunreinigungen oder Streckstoffe vorhanden sind. Es hilft also, die Sicherheit von Konsumierenden deutlich zu erhöhen, indem es genau zeigt, was wirklich in der Substanz steckt.

Auf dem zweiten Slide seht ihr eine extrem präzise Waage, die hilft, Proben im Milligrammbereich exakt zu wiegen – ein weiterer wichtiger Schritt im Drug Checking Prozess. 🧑‍🔬⚖️

Wir hoffen, dass der Stadt Leipzig bald Drug Checking rechtlich ermöglicht wird, damit User*innen mehr Klarheit und Sicherheit im Umgang mit psychoaktiven Substanzen bekommen. Ein wichtiger Schritt für den sicheren Umgang mit psychoaktiven Substanzen

🌐 Today is the international drug checking day - we have written a paper about the context driving the need for drug checking services and decided to publish it to mark the occasion. 💊 📊
Drug markets can move quickly and unpredictably. At the moment the TEDI network has deep concerns that highly potent and pharmacologically diverse substances may enter the European drug market to an unknown extent. Therefore, the maintenance, implementation, and expansion of various harm reduction interventions and their adaptation to the new challenges, is necessary to reduce the risk of a public health crisis. By ensuring that a wide range of harm reduction interventions such as Drug Checking Services and Drug Consumption Rooms are available and accessible, we can ensure regular contact with people who use drugs, target harm reduction measures and strengthen market monitoring efforts by increasing the number of opportunities to obtain samples for analysis.
