🎙️Introducing a TEDxArgyleSt 2026 Speaker

LAUREN PEVERIL, Author | Undergraduate Researcher | Autism Advocate | Mount Allison University

Lauren Peveril spent her entire childhood undiagnosed. It was not until early adulthood that she received her autism diagnosis, and with it, a new lens through which to understand everything she had experienced. Today she is an undergraduate student at Mount Allison University researching autism policy and lifespan supports, the author of a children's book on autism used as an educational resource in classrooms, and a passionate advocate for neurodivergent individuals who are still waiting for systems to catch up to their needs. She leads a STEM outreach program, co-founded the Pre-Law Society, and was recently elected Grad Class President at Mount Allison. Lauren speaks from inside the experience and within the structures that shape diagnosis and policy.

At TEDxArgyleSt 2026, she will be speaking on Being Different in a World Built for Sameness.

Autism is not what television taught you it was. Lauren will challenge every assumption you carry about what normal looks like, why those assumptions cause real harm, and who gets left behind when our systems are only designed for one kind of mind. This talk is not just about autism. It is about what we lose as a society when we mistake difference for deficit, and what becomes possible when we finally stop.

Thank You.

On behalf of the entire TEDxArgyle St team, thank you to everyone who helped make TEDxArgyleSt 2026 possible.

To our speakers, volunteers, partners, sponsors, attendees, coaches, and supporters, thank you for your time, energy, and belief in the power of ideas worth sharing.

What happened on August 29 was only possible because of a community that showed up, adapted, and supported one another. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this year's event a success.

As we reflect on this year's theme, EVOLVE, we are reminded that growth happens through connection, conversation, and the courage to share new ideas.

Thank you for being part of the TEDxArgyleSt community. We look forward to sharing more highlights from the event in the coming weeks.

A special thank you to our sponsors,

@td_canada

Ideas That Stay With Us

As we look back on TEDxArgyleSt 2026, we're revisiting the voices and ideas that helped shape this year's event:

▪️ Vaishali Sachdeva
▪️ Michelle Weger
▪️ Vatsal Sood
▪️ Beth Hayward
▪️ Ashwin Kutty & Paul MacKinnon

One of the most rewarding parts of TEDx is seeing how a single idea can spark reflection, conversation, and new ways of thinking.

The talks may have ended, but the questions they raised and the perspectives they shared continue to resonate with our community.

💭Which idea from TEDxArgyleSt 2026 has stayed with you the longest, and why?

We would love to hear your reflections in the comments.

When I was eight, I stood at a corner in Lagos and turned around.

I was walking to a lesson teacher who taught through fear. One afternoon, the smell of chin-chin wafted through the air, up my nostrils and I turned around to follow its lure. Comfort and acceptance, not fear. That small turn gave me a skill that eventually paid for my first computer training. It is the reason I do what I do.

On August 29th I told that story on the @tedxargyle stage in @Halifax, theme EVOLVE, and tied it to the work of my life: helping people move from access to agency in the age of AI.

Because being let into the room was never the prize. Shaping what happens once you are in it always was.

The tools will keep changing. YOU are the constant.

The full talk lands on TED soon. I will share it the moment it is live.

The whole framework lives in my book, The AI-Ready You. Link in bio.

Turn around. Pick up the pen. Evolve on purpose.

The ideas shared on the TEDxArgyleSt stage continue to stay with us.

We're pleased to highlight the first group of speakers from TEDxArgyleSt 2026:

▪️ Lauren Peveril
▪️ Ingrid Deon
▪️ David Divine
▪️ Sandra Tadros Guirguis
▪️ Titi Akinsanmi

Through their stories, experiences, and ideas, these speakers invited us to reflect on what it means to evolve as individuals, leaders, and communities.

One theme that resonated throughout the day was that meaningful change often begins with a single conversation, decision, or perspective shift. The ideas shared on our stage reminded us that growth is not always about taking bigger steps, but sometimes about seeing familiar challenges in a new way.

Now we'd love to hear from you.

💭 Which speaker's idea challenged your thinking the most, and what is one action or perspective you have taken away from TEDxArgyleSt 2026?

Someone recently said to me, “You’ve become the TED girl of Halifax.”

And honestly… I think that’s partially accurate. 😂
But I’ve only been able to become that person because Halifax has given me the space to grow into it.

Because people here have opened doors, answered calls, shared ideas, volunteered their time, shown up, and believed in the power of stories.

You see, the scariest part about moving to a new country isn’t always starting over. Sometimes, it’s not knowing the people you’ll meet or how they might shape the trajectory of your life.

People always find it funny when I tell them I first fell in love with Canada through a TV show. I never could have imagined then just how much this place, and the people I would meet here, would become part of my story.

Looking back at these photos, I’m reminded that events like this don’t happen because of one person. They happen because a community believes in a vision and chooses to show up for it.

So to everyone who supported, volunteered, spoke, attended, shared, encouraged, connected, contributed, or simply believed in what we were building, thank you.

TEDxArgyle St exists because of you.

It exists because of the community that Halifax is. And maybe that’s the most beautiful part of building a life in a new place: the people you meet along the way can become part of a story you never knew you were writing. ❤️

And as always, special thanks to my Mama this beautiful cultural outfit,

What do grief, autism and human trafficking have in common?

On August 29, I had the honour of stepping onto the TEDx stage to deliver my talk, “Everyone Is Clapping, While I’m Collapsing.”

The theme was Evolve.

And listening to the other speakers, something struck me.

@lauren.peveril spoke about receiving an autism diagnosis later in life and how that experience now drives her to create resources for others.

@empowermentforhope shared her story of childhood abuse and human trafficking, and how she now uses her experience to help others understand their own worth.

I spoke about crushing grief, how my body kept the score, and how that valley became a passion for understanding what prolonged stress does to our bodies and how we can restore ourselves before we crash.

Three very different stories. One common thread:

The valley became part of the purpose.

We don’t always get to choose what happens to us. But eventually, we get to choose what we build from it.

Sometimes the thing that nearly breaks us becomes the reason we build something that matters.

And through every valley of my own, I’m grateful to Jesus for carrying me through and giving purpose to the pain.

Thank you TEDxArgyle, Fatu and the entire volunteer team for this incredible opportunity. Trina, having you as my coach was such a blessing. And to my family, friends and mentors, thank you for all the love and belief along the way.

So much love to you all. xo by @tedxargyle
