On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, as President of IVSA UNIMAID, I had the privilege of leading a team of 40 veterinary students, with the guidance and support of our clinicians, to carry out a PPR Vaccination Campaign in the Moduganari area of Maiduguri. This project was made possible through the CEVA Animal Welfare Grant, which IVSA UNIMAID had the honor of winning.
Together, we successfully vaccinated 273 sheep and goats against Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), bringing direct protection to the local livestock. In communities like Moduganari, these animals represent far more than just livestock, they are the source of livelihood for the locals and safeguarding them against devastating disease outbreaks directly protects the financial stability and livelihoods of local families. Not only did we stop at vaccination but we went ahead to create awareness on PPR to the local farmers and how they can curb it. Beyond the immediate community impact, the campaign served as an invaluable hands-on learning opportunity for our 40 veterinary student volunteers. Working alongside experienced clinicians allowed us to bridge the gap between classroom theory and hands on practice, sharpening our skills in herd health management, vaccination, and community outreach.
I am deeply grateful to CEVA Animal Welfare for trusting our vision and funding this project, to our clinicians for their unwavering mentorship, and to our entire student team whose hard work made this campaign a success thank you very much.

E. Signed
