We would like to say THANK YOU to the @city.of.sanantoniotx Department of Arts & Culture for being a 2027 Events Grant Recipient for our Sixth installation of @teensonamissionsa : "The Youth Brigade" happening Fall of 2027! This grant supports our entrepreneurial event showcasing our student bands along with San Antonio teen & young adult rockin bands that we see putting in the time and effort! The event also invites citywide young artists and vendors to participate! Next years event will come with a big surprise that will be announced soon! The last month and a half has been a whirlwind, to say the least. It's been a huge honor to have been recognized for the efforts that we, not just me, have put into @highvoltagemusicsa ... I'd like to say one last THANK YOU to celebrated Artist and recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship "genius grant," @vincentvaldez77 for our inclusion in his @aclutx series entitled, "The New Americans", designed as a "portrait of resistance" and a visual reflection of contemporary American life. It was a pleasure to be able to go to his print signings yesterday, where he sat for hours with a very long line throughout the afternoon. The second was a grand recognition by the @sanantonioriverwalk and @visitsanantonio in collaboration with @utsa (thank you @vgrodriguez ), and sponsored by @hennessy is being selected as one of six "Hispanic Heroes", kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month. Seeing my oversized portrait created by super talented muralist Crystal Tamez was a complete surprise! The whole installation at the @thestanthonyhotel on the Riverwalk was quite beautiful. Both were unexpected honors, which I don't take lightly. To that, I will say this program would not happen without the dedicated instructors who are professional touring musicians @odie.bossbass and @bigbadharv210 and many musicians!! This all comes while having our 10th Anniversary celebrating teaching youth in grades 7-12 to play an instrument at no cost, including instruments. Our students start the program by choosing an instrument, learning to play it, being grouped into bands, then ending the schoolyear with several events on professional stages throughout San Antonio, including our annual entrepreneurial event, Teens on a Mission. Our students love classic rock, metal, pop rock to punk rock, and are free to express their creative selves on stage! We're always in need of funding and support, including from private donors, to continue our mission as a no cost program, removing barriers to enrich students from underserved schools and communities who may not otherwise afford a music program. Now that @visitsanantonio and The @thesanantonioriverwalk has it out there, I just want to say I'm filled with gratitude and pride to be one of six individuals that was chosen to be honored as one of the Hispanic Heroes during the kickoff of Hispanic Heritage Month! As a first-generation Mexican-American, I accept this on behalf of being my father's daughter. I don't need accolades for anything I do, but when they do come, it does solidify some of the things that I feel good about that I've accomplished and have achieved being a self-taught person in our community. At the very least, I would like those who feel like they don't have all of the degrees and education that it takes to do what you would like to do, to know experience does matter and that it's never too late to learn on your own. Without that drive and knowledge, some of my accomplishments probably would've never happened.. The six of us being honored have our painted portraits up at six different hotels at the riverwalk. Mine is at the St. Anthony Hotel. @hennessyus has created a cocktail in each of our honors. Mine is The Bella Mule. I was asked what I like to drink, and generally, if I'm gonna have a cocktail, my go-to is a ginger beer and Whiskey, so they created a refreshing drink with their Cognac. If I'm gonna get accolades, I think this is the fun way to do it. Have your portrait up for about fifteen days and a cocktail to go with it! Once again, THANK YOU to the city for the honor to be one of many representing our community! Today, we're highlighting the reason for the season...he is why High Voltage Music Program exists. My son Jeremy, who is a 2020 graduate at our longest standing school @idea.soflo and now is a substitute wherever needed for the program, as well as an integral part of staging for all our events. As an affluent songwriter, he is playing and recording with two bands that will be debuting soon, so stay tuned! Eric Lozano is one of six artists I personally asked to contribute art to the cause because their work speaks to me and everyone who sees it. FEATURING ARTIST @marcyemcchesney who is donating a piece of her fantastic collage art for the Silent Art Auction happening Cherrity Bar on 9/19 benefiting High Voltage Music Program SA ! (This is not the art that will be up for auction, but an example of work by this awesome artist.) Marcy McChesney: Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Marcy McChesney made her way to California after completing her primary education. She spent over ten years in California, showcasing her paintings in various local coffee houses, bars and galleries from San Diego to San Francisco.  In 2001, she returned to San Antonio to pursue her Bachelor of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at San Antonio and completed in the spring of 2004. In 2016 after completing a series of collages, she fell in love with the process and never looked back, deciding to immerse herself in everything collage. Throughout her career Marcy has had solo exhibitions in the United States, Mexico and Europe, and has been selected for many juried shows at galleries including Arte Contemporáno and La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles. Her artwork has been featured in publications such as "Is This Forever or What?: Poems and Paintings from Texas" by Naomi Shihab Nye and she designed the cover for Jo LeCouer's book of poetry, "Medicine Woods". Marcy was a 2024 Individual Artist Grant Recipient for The City of San Antonio and most recently completed an artist residency at the Kolaj Institute in New Orleans. Marcy's artwork has featured in publications such as American Craft Magazine and The San Antonio Express News, among others.  Today, Marcy McChesney is one of San Antonio's top creative collage artists. His vibrant graphic works are filled with colors and characteristics of his birth place that can be best described as surrealistic and “Mod Folk Art." Klubes' influences are Joan Miro, Picasso, various Stained Glass artist works, and Cartoon art from childhood books. KLube is also a talented and skilled musician who has performed locally since the 1980s, all the while working on developing his original art. After a hiatus, he's back on local stages since 2021, writing, recording, and performing solo gigs or playing with backup musicians who are collaborators and longtime friends.
