When I got the @ridecannondale Topstone the intent always was to have it be my everything bike what with having a set of @wovenprecision carbon gravel wheels and @ellevosports carbon road wheels. I could swap between them depending on what my ride was.

Over the last couple of swaps I’ve run into snags that involve having to adjust the brake callipers in order to stop brake rub. The last two times it had become increasingly more finicky.

After some time at @gremlinsbicycleemporium with @carson_lessif trying to get me sorted we’ve come to learn that it will always require adjustment and tinkering as the hubs put the brake rotors in slightly different spots—enough to be a pain!

I have accepted (and more importantly @mumtoonegirl has too) that the better solution is getting a dedicated road bike. This spring in Florida for the Cheerleading Worlds for our daughter, I rented and fell in love with a @ridecannondale SuperSix EVO. So that is what I will be looking for.

What that means is I am going to be selling off a lot of stuff I won’t be needing any more. Most namely my carbon road wheels, a set of take-off aluminum WTB wheels that came on the Topstone, as well as my other, B Bike the GT Grade Carbon Expert.

But, more importantly, this post was to recognize the Topstone in the ‘final’ state it will stay in, which is Gravel Race Rocket 🚀. Look at her, she’s a beautician! taken in North London by @teeterboy3

Ride 302 | Zwift

Had the alarm set for 6:35 am in hopes of an early morning pre-work rip. However it was too dark and too cold for my liking so indoor won out.

The trouble was if I wanted to wait for sunrise it would not give me enough time to get the ride done before I needed to get ready and off to work.

I can get the 34km ride done in Zwift in just over an hour whereas that same ride in real life takes about an hour and a half.

And I’d be warm, inside.

Ride Nº 301 | Zwift

After this week’s wipeout in wet leaves on the wea,ing bridge, and with today’s forecast of rain for the morning and higher winds, I opted for safer and indoors on Zwift for the ride.

But with having already done an hour of hockey to start my day, I gave myself permission to not push it really hard and take it easy. And, more importantly, take advantage of any coffee stops available along the ride.

And today I was able to squeeze two in on the ride. And one of them was with a pacer group so I was able to shower the group with “Ride On’s” along the way.

Ride N° 300 | TVP

My brother told me that the new section of Thames Valley Parkway on the north side of the bridge at Wellington St, that runs though their SoHo neighbourhood was now open.

So, with another day off and significantly less things on my schedule today I decided to do the whole city loop of the TVP covering both East Branch, North Branch and the West Branch – only for the first time doing the loop as a figure eight.

The consistent 16km/h headwind out of the east made more than a couple of the straight east/west segments more challenging. But it certainly turned into a beautiful day for it.

But don’t take my word for it. Watch the video recap. Perfect way to cross off my 300th ride on the year!

Ride N° 299 | TVP

We’re at the time of year where you can be riding in summer kit sweating one day and in fall kit the very next day. The kind of weather where you experience an 18° downward dip in the feels like temperature.

Still, it is a beautiful time of year to be riding. For those very reasons.

Some time in the last week or so, I crossed over 10,000km pedalled this year. That makes it the 3rd year in a row for that. I’m only 1,139km from my yearly goal of 12,000km.

But what’s most staggering is my lifetime total distance (on Strava) which is 58,296km. That part blows my mind.

Ride No 298 | TVP

What a treat to be able to ride in full summer out and be warm enough to break into a good sweat!

With it being the university’s reading week the Thames Valley Parkway was busier than most evenings. Or, it could have been because of the beautiful weather.

Either way there were a lot of us out there enjoying the evening and getting some exercise.

Ride N° 297 TVP

Working off the turkey… Finally had a morning without an alarm which was perfect. Still ended up rousing around 8am - which was two and a half hours later than yesterday, so I guess sleeping in?

At any rate after a good year at least, I had another ‘thank you wet leaves and wet path’ moment on the TVP.

Coming up behind HMCS Prevost across the walking bridge at Ivy Park I tried to tighten up my misjudged turn and caught a patch of wet wood on the bridge, losing my wheel and came down off the bike. Full wipeout.

I’m okay. And more importantly, the bike is okay. 😂 But my elbow, shoulder and knee the bore the brunt of the hard stop of gravity (aka the ground) are likely going to be bruised.

To the two ladies who witnessed it all and immediately were trotting over to see if I was okay: thank you for being good, caring humans.

Ride No 296 | Zwift

No rest for the wicked… working all weekend and even better the open on a Sunday. All this is to say that today’s ride would have to be two things: 1) before work at ungodly o’clock; and, 2) on Zwift.

But with good reason. Immediately after I’m done work, the Teeter family will be convening at our house to be together to celebrate all that we’re thankful for. And to eat. And to be together.

And that’s all that matters. Especially given the context of our last four years as a family.

That makes a 5:40am alarm and indoor session immeasurably more palatable.
