I created the Nancy Jo Smith Hospice Nursing Scholarship Fund at the University of the District of columbia’s (the UDC’s) Nursing School, to Honor the Memory of our Family’s Matriarch/My Nancy/My OP who passed on June 4th, 2025, to RECOGNIZE the 8 Registered Nurses who provided her with such DEVOTED and LOVING 24/7 care for the 3 prior years, and to SUPPORT RNs generally, particularly those who provide Hospice and Palliative care.

The first 2 UDC recipients of the Nancy Jo Smith Hospice Nursing Scholarships for the 2025–2026 academic year are:

Mrs. Tiffany McPherson, RN
Mrs. McPherson is pursuing her RN-to-BSN degree and is currently employed as a hospice nurse. She was highly recommended for this scholarship byDr. Elmira Asongwed, BSN Program Director, Department of Nursing and Nutrition, UDC‑CAUSES. Her dedication to palliative care and professional excellence exemplifies the mission of this scholarship.

Mr. Connor Finley
Mr. Finley maintains a 4.0 GPA and has demonstrated exceptional compassion and service. In addition to supporting his blind stepmother, he has worked in nursing homes throughout the DC area, where he assisted elderly and impaired patients. These experiences have shaped him into an empathetic and committed caregiver. Mr. Finley was recommended by Dr. Suzie Cato, Associate Professor and Interim Director of Nursing Education, UDC‑CC.

RNs are much needed and of PRICELESS benefits as I, My Nancy and our Family came to FULLY Appreciate.

Even you are so inclined, tax deductible contributions may be made electronically to the NJS Nursing Scholarship at https://www.udc.edu/foundation/ using the “Donate” button, specifying the NJS Hospice Nursing Scholarship.

GOD Bless each of you, yours, my Nancy, the UDC, Nurses and ALL! 🙏 ❤️🙏 by @tefftsmith

Thanks to ALL our Veterans and their supportive Families, for their service, to our BELOVED Country.

The Freedoms of Speech and Assembly and the Rights to Vote, live, thrive and grow, in this Great Republic, are PRESERVED and PROTECTED by our service men and women.
With Love, Respect and Admiration for their sacrifices to ensure that

“This Nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal ... shall have a new birth of freedom; and that this government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth,”

as so eloquently expressed by President Lincoln.

GOD Bless them, my Nancy, each of you, yours and our PRECIOUS America, the GREATEST Nation on Earth. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 by @tefftsmith

As you may have seen, our MATRIARCH/Mom/G/My Nancy/My OP passed peacefully and painlessly, with our Family LOVINGLY present, on June 4, 2025, finally succumbing to the terrible injuries she suffered from the tragic car accident we experienced in April 2022.

For those wishing to make a contribution in Nancy’s memory, and in honor of the devoted nurses who cared for her 24/7 for the past 3 years, our Family established — the Nancy Jo Smith Hospice Nursing Scholarship fund — at the University of the District of Columbia’s Nursing School. nurses in general,
Checks referencing Nancy’s name may be mailed to:
The UDC Foundation, attn. Rodney Trapp, 4200 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20008.

Contributions may also be made electronically at
