Setting these anchor bolts and hold downs is critical for the strength of the framing!

They are embedded deep in the concrete-filled walls to provide strength against wind and seismic forces.

To set them, you need to know your exact framing layout so that anchor bolts land between stud bays and hold downs land next to structural fastening points.

Yuck!
We uncovered a massive bury pit of organics directly under where the foundation wall of this new shop goes.
You cannot build on top of organic matter, because over time, it will degrade and leave a void in the soil, compromising the structural capacity.
In this case, the only feasible option was to dig it all out and replace with clean structural fill, compacted in 12" lifts.

It's one of those risks associated with the earthwork portion of work. Next time, I'll be putting more effort into bore holes and/or test pits to mitigate this type of risk as much as possible.

Right now, this verse is feeling really applicable;
Genesis 3:17: "And to Adam he said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, 'You shall not eat of it', cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you..."

Adam just had to ruin it for the rest of us 🙄 by @tektonbuildingak
