as we come to a close on black history month, i would like to share a special memory from black history month circa 2022
my best friend and i co-produced and creative directed “Soul Revue”, an event produced by students at GW each year, for our Black Heritage Celebration. the theme of BHC that year was “BEEN BLACK”. our goal was to create a memorable experience for the community while also remaining authentic to ourselves. we decided to approach it differently, than it has been done before, and titled the program “Redefining Soul Revue: Reclaiming, Recreating, Remixing”. though we were leading this program, collaboration was at the heart of it all, and we wanted that to be reflected while creating a platform for people to showcase their gifts and talents.
the experience of creating this program was very new for both telease and i, and came with many challenges, but we had the best time letting our ideas flow, executing, and watching it all come to life. we grew so much as leaders, creatives, and friends.
