SILENT HOUSE
By O. Gideon 2023
Charcoal on Paper

Silent House explores the human body as a vessel for the mystery of the mind. The house, standing quietly within the woods, becomes a metaphor for the self, familiar on the outside, yet filled with rooms, depths, and mysteries that remain unseen.

Just as we can look at a house without knowing who lives inside, we encounter the human body without ever fully knowing the thoughts, emotions, memories, and mysteries contained within. The surrounding darkness represents the vastness of what exists beyond human understanding, the things that are present, yet remain unknown to man.

The tall trees stand as silent, unseen observers of the universe. They witness our movements, choices, and actions from a distance, suggesting that nothing we do exists entirely without consequence. Like ancient witnesses, they observe humanity and, in their own mysterious way, react to the actions taking place within their presence.

The work reflects on the quiet distance between what can be seen and what can only be imagined. Behind every face, every body, and every silence, there is an interior world that may remain hidden from everyone but the person who inhabits it.

Silent House therefore asks a simple but unsettling question: How much of what exists can we truly see, and how much remains forever hidden?

Silent House is currently available at OMGI Art Store, awaiting collection by its next owner.

FIVE WORKS. FIVE QUESTIONS. ONE MIND.

What happens when an artist stops painting what the world expects to see and starts painting what the world refuses to confront?

This is the world of O. Gideon.

From The Melancholy of Dementia to Look at Yourself, Color Paradox, The Beauty We Bury, and Confluence, these works are not merely compositions of colour and form. They are investigations into the human condition.

Memory. Identity. Perception. Beauty. Contradiction. Connection.

Each canvas begins where ordinary conversation ends.

The Melancholy of Dementia asks what remains of us when memory begins to disappear.
Look at Yourself turns the mirror back toward the viewer.
Color Paradox reminds that we are all in a state of being complete and incomplete at the same time.
The Beauty We Bury confronts the beauty we hide so we can function in a world that sees beauty as weakness.
And Confluence explores the collision of different worlds becoming something greater together.

This is not art created merely to decorate a room.

It is art created to disturb certainty. To provoke thought. To start conversations. To make you look twice and perhaps, look inward.

At Omgi Art Store, we believe art is more than an object.

Art is memory. Art is philosophy. Art is identity. And in the right hands, art becomes an asset that outlives its creator.

Welcome to the works of O. Gideon.
Where every canvas has something to say and something to ask.

WE ARE LIVING IN A MOMENT IN HISTORY

Gideon paints from the tension between what we see and what we cannot see. Between order and chaos. Between the individual and the world around him. His works are not simply attempts to create something beautiful; they are attempts to capture consciousness in a physical form.
And that is what makes this particular moment interesting.
He is creating while history is still happening.
The world has not yet decided what this era will mean. We are still living through its contradictions, its ambitions, its uncertainty and its transformation.
But Gideon is already asking a question that belongs to the future:
“When they look back at us, what will they see?”
Maybe they will see the paintings.
Maybe they will see the ideas behind them.
Or perhaps they will simply see proof that we were here and that we were paying attention.

Confluence: The Artwork That Will Belong to Only Three People

I have found myself returning to the same question over and over again.

Why only three?

Why would an artwork as compelling as Confluence be limited to just three prints in the entire world? Why create something that so many people may admire, yet ensure that only three individuals will ever have the privilege of owning it?

At first, the decision seemed surprising.

Then I kept looking.

And the longer I looked, the less the limitation felt like a marketing decision and the more it felt like the only decision that made sense.

Because Confluence is not simply an artwork.
It is an unfolding conversation.

Most artworks reveal themselves in a single glance. You admire the colours, appreciate the composition, and move on. Confluence refuses to be consumed that way. It asks you to stay. It asks you to question. It rewards patience.

Every encounter uncovers another layer.
One day, it speaks to me about society.

Another day, it becomes a meditation on politics and power.

Then it transforms into a reflection on love, human relationships, identity, memory, fear, hope, and the quiet tensions that shape our lives. At other moments, it feels deeply philosophical, asking questions about coexistence, destiny, and what truly binds people together despite all that threatens to divide them.

It is almost unsettling how one image can carry so many conversations at once.

That is why I hesitate to call Confluence a painting.

It feels more like an intellectual landscape—one that changes depending on who is standing before it.

Perhaps that is the nature of truly enduring art. It never finishes speaking because we never finish growing. As we change, the artwork seems to change with us—not because it has changed, but because we have.

This is only my perspective.

Others have encountered Confluence and arrived at entirely different conclusions. Some see spirituality. Others see history. Some see politics. Others see reconciliation, resilience, conflict, or .....

The Politics of Unity and the Spider's Web

- A Personal Interpretation of O. Gideon's Confluence

One of the most compelling dimensions of Confluence is its ability to transcend the personal and invite a broader reflection on society. Through the symbolism of the confluence and the spider, I found myself contemplating Nigeria—its promise, its diversity, and the invisible forces that continue to undermine its unity.

The image of the confluence immediately brought to mind Lokoja in Kogi State, where the River Benue and the River Niger meet. These two great rivers, each with its own origin, character, and course, merge without surrendering their identities. They become one larger body of water and continue their journey toward the Atlantic Ocean. There is no struggle for dominance. Neither river seeks to erase the other. Their union demonstrates a profound truth: diversity and unity are not opposing ideals but complementary realities.

To me, this is a powerful metaphor for the Nigerian state. Nigeria was never meant to be a nation of uniformity. Rather, it is a confluence of peoples, cultures, religions, and languages. Like the two rivers, our differences should strengthen rather than weaken us. The nation's true potential lies in allowing every group to preserve its identity while contributing to a common national purpose. In this metaphor, the Atlantic Ocean represents our larger collective destiny—a prosperous, peaceful, and influential Nigeria that no single group could achieve alone.

Yet, suspended above this hopeful image is the spider.
The spider represents the unseen forces that continually interfere with the natural process of unity. It does not become part of the confluence; instead, it hovers above it, weaving webs that entangle what should otherwise flow freely. Sociologically, the spider symbolizes inherited prejudice, fear, historical grievances, misinformation, stereotypes, and social conditioning.

THREE COLLECTORS, ONE LEGACY.
Most people will admire Confluence.
Only three people will ever own it.
This is not an open edition. It is not mass produced. It is not art that can be replaced.
When the final print is acquired, Confluence disappears from the market forever.
Each edition is individually numbered, assigned a unique identification code, and secured by a Certificate of Authenticity, preserving its rarity for generations.
This is more than a masterpiece. It is a conversation about existence, duality, and the hidden wisdom woven into the universe.
The question isn’t “Can I buy it?”
The question is...
Will your name be remembered as one of the only three collectors in the world?

The Emotional Evolution of Omah Lay: the continuum From Pain to Perspective and Clarity
By Toryima Agwa

INTRODUCTION
Twelve hours post release of the Clarity of mind (COM) album, I try to find perspectives into the artist’s journey right after taking my sixth spin of the album.
My curiosities have as well pointed me towards his persona and his journey as he moves and transitions from his Boy Alone phase (2022) to his clarity of mind (2026) I have tried to analyze various reasons, why’s, uniqueness, growth, evolution, impacts and importance of his art.

In an era where Afrobeats is often defined by rhythm, energy, and celebration, Omah Lay stands apart as a quiet disruptor, an artist who leans into vulnerability rather than away from it.
His music does not just make people dance; it makes them feel, reflect, and confront parts of themselves they might otherwise ignore.

With Boy Alone (2022) and the reflective continuation Clarity of Mind (2026), Omah Lay offers more than a discography. He presents a deeply human narrative.
These two bodies of work exist in conversation with each other, documenting a journey that moves from emotional chaos to conscious understanding. Together, they form a powerful arc: one that captures the confusion of becoming and the courage it takes to seek clarity.

1. Boy Alone — Fame, Isolation and Emotional Chaos

Boy Alone is where everything begins, not with answers but with exposure. Across its 14 tracks (expanded to 20 in the deluxe), Omah Lay invites listeners into a deeply personal space marked by contradiction. Here is an artist at the peak of his rising fame yet emotionally fragmented.
Songs like “Soso” echo with longing: “Soso take my pain away…”- a line that feels less like a lyric and more like a desperate plea. In “Understand,” he navigates betrayal and confusion, while “I’m a Mess” strips everything down to a blunt confession as there is no attempt to mask instability; instead, he leans into it.

What makes Boy Alone striking is this tension between external success and internal unrest.

Yellow Eyes, Red Will - Toryima Agwa

A fortnight ago, i sat for a conversation with Lagos.
A dialogue which ended in a pod and cast numerous characters as actors and audience.

With so much to discuss, she asked that I have the floor opened since i was the ask and master of ceremony.
I sort to, in contrast to the expected tone of noise, i resulted in a calm, descriptive, and reflective weather.

I chose the yellow bus -bent, tired, never perfect - yet always moving.
Just like the people.
The steering wheel and speedometer speak of control inside chaos.
The red headlamps are Lagos' eyes - tired, fiery, and  relentless.
The white lines slice through motion, reminding us that the city never stands still.
The green below means only one thing: Go.
The number plate YB854 left of Yaba, Lagos.
A place of ideas, pressure, madness, and movement.
This is a city that doesn’t sleep,
that runs on noise, hustle, love, and willpower.
Madness, yes- but a beautiful one.
The kind that keeps you moving no matter what.
This is Lagos.

The more i work with colors, the more i understand how inter-connected the world is.
The beauties in every segment of our lives, the unnoticeable support systems we enjoy freely at our disposal both by nature and from people around us,
How much we need one another and how true we must remain to ourselves and others to experience the feeling of being.
Also, from every element being a product of another, its simply just revolving metamorphosis in the end.
