The video work Dogs in Paradise was created during a two-month residency in Curaçao, where Shani Leseman and G.C. Heemskerk explored what it means to be a dog.

“Our working method for this project was inspired by the text Straying with Street Dogs by Eva Meijer and Aron Nor. This philosophical text discusses how wandering is a right rather than a sin, and can even be an act of political resistance. It also focuses on the idea that dogs are not pitiful animals in need of rescue, but autonomous individuals from whom we can learn. We do not need to give them a voice, but must listen to them.

For this project, we collaborated with the rescue organisation CARF, the oldest sanctuary on Curaçao where (former) street dogs are allowed to live under a no-kill policy. By volunteering at CARF, we were able to spend a great deal of time with various individuals, such as Popeye, Stelle, Gazolina and Petrol.

This project represents a deepening of our ongoing research into the more-than-human community, magic and animal rights. Magic and practical work need not contradict one another: it is precisely in helping the street dogs and observing them attentively that a magical connection arises. Within the cultural and spiritual richness of Curaçao, the everyday and the inexplicable are intertwined.

The motivation for this project stems from an inner desire to improve the lives of non-human animals in our society and to tell a by @temp.antwerp

We are excited to formally announce the 3rd iteration of “I’M JUST A DOG” in partnership with TEMP.Antwerp. Most recently, this work was reinstalled in Berlin in 2019 as a product of our residency at Kunstraum Kreuzberg Bethanien in Berlin, and received financial support from Tokyo Wonder Site. In this 2026 presentation in Antwerp, we are thrilled to be in conversation with Coco Schütte (DE), Esther Hunziker (CH), Jesse Siegel (MX/US), and Trystan Williams (UK). Many special thanks to our lovely supporters who made this possible:

For three months Temp found its temporary new home in the former barber shop ‘Multi Luxe Salon’ in the center of the city.

Within this short period we curated three group shows:
Pattern pending -- 14/11-23/11
Phonemes pt1 -- 30/11-07/12
Phonemes pt2 -- 12/12-21/12

It took a lot of effort for everything to come together but it was certainly worth it.

Thank you for visiting the shows and all the support 🫶

Last Friday, alongside the opening of Phonemes pt. II, we launched a small calendar publication for the coming year.

The photographs were taken in between the three exhibitions we organized at our current location, Frankrijklei 133A. They capture a space in waiting, focusing on small details that often go unnoticed during the intensity of an opening moment.

The publication is available for pre-order. Send us a message to get your copy! All income will go towards supporting our next steps. by @temp.antwerp

Join us this Friday, 12 December after 18:00 for the opening of the last exhibition in our current location with works by: @kr11st11, @jantromp1 and @mekhitargarabedian
