🏷️ NPHF Exhibition Spotlight 🏷️ Leslie Willis-Lowry, lead archivist at the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection (Temple Libraries), highlights the spiritual journey, remarkable artistry, and revolutionary career of one of the most gifted jazz artists of his generation in the exhibition Coltrane 100: John Coltrane – The Man & His Music.

And! Join us onsite at the Blockson Collection on Friday, 9/25 for Been Here All Along: Reflections on the Spirit of John Coltrane. Dr. Diane D. Turner, who has documented oral histories of North Philadelphia and Black Philadelphia music for decades, will present together with Serkaddis Alemayehu selections from their project “We Remember, We Recall: An Oral History of North Philadelphia," including newly recorded interviews, archival photography and audio.

Earlier this semester, Temple Libraries opened Philadelphia Unfolded, an exhibition that explores identity, memory, migration, and belonging through photographs from the Libraries’ extensive archival collections. Featuring images that capture everyday life, neighborhood change, community gathering, and individual expression, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the many people and places that have shaped Philadelphia over time.

Join curators, Ann Mosher and me, from Temple Libraries’ Special Collections Research Center for an in-depth guided tour of the exhibition. Learn more about the archival photographs on view, the histories they document, and the ways visual collections can preserve both personal experiences and broader stories of life in Philadelphia.

🇵🇪 Perú en Temple | Temple en Perú 🇵🇪

This Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month, Spanish & Portuguese and Temple Libraries are coming together to celebrate the many connections between Temple and Peru.
Across seven events, artists, scholars, and practitioners from across Temple and beyond will explore Peru through art, engineering, architecture, public health, photography, sculpture, film, history, and more—showcasing the extraordinary ways our communities, research, and creative practices cross borders.

From building sustainable water systems in Peru to exploring Lima’s built environment, from contemporary Peruvian art to public health initiatives and histories of the Inca Empire, Perú en Temple | Temple en Perú brings together the many ways Peru is already part of Temple.
