Temple Law just welcomed the most academically credentialed class in its history.

255 new J.D. students. A median LSAT of 165 and a median GPA of 3.77. Undergraduate degrees from 134 colleges and universities across 33 states and countries.

But credentials are only part of it. Among the 2026 entering class: Peace Corps and AmeriCorps volunteers, Teach for America alumni, five veterans of the Air Force, Army Reserve, Marines, and Navy. Boxers, rowers, a pole vaulter. Filmmakers, playwrights, poets. Nineteen percent are the first in their families to attend college, and 78% spent at least a year out in the world before deciding on law school.

The next generation of Temple Lawyers is poised to take flight. Click the link in our bio for more. by @templelaw

Introduction to Transactional Skills (ITS) is an innovative three-week course that introduces 1Ls to transactional lawyering. It’s their first chance at Temple Law to learn by doing, and to start seeing themselves as real lawyers.

Working in teams of two, students represent the partners in a small business. They interview their clients, then counsel, draft and negotiate on their behalf.

This year’s course by the numbers:
• 223 1Ls
• 21 upper-level students serving as TAs and clients
• 23 teachers
• 73 alumni who observe the final negotiations

Thanks to Prof. Andrea Monroe and to all who make ITS possible. taken in Temple University Beasley School of Law by @templelaw

At this week’s Dean’s Forum, Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame member Ellen Relkin, partner and practice group chair at Weitz & Luxenberg, shared lessons from more than three decades representing people injured by dangerous drugs, medical devices, and toxic chemicals.

Relkin walked students through litigation involving DES, a drug once prescribed to pregnant women that was later linked to cancer and reproductive harm in their daughters. She also described chromium poisoning cases in which, she said, the exposure had turned clients' bones yellow. Relkin has also led major litigation on behalf of patients harmed by defective hip and orthopedic implants, helping secure multibillion-dollar settlements.

Courts have repeatedly appointed Relkin to lead some of the nation’s largest consolidated litigations. She closed by taking student questions and offering advice on building a career in plaintiffs’ work.

Thank you to Ellen Relkin for spending the afternoon with our community.

Kean Family Dean Lonnie Brown, Jr. joined law school leaders from across the country at the 15th Annual Building Pathways to Law School Leadership Workshop, hosted by Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law and co-presented with Seattle University School of Law.

Dean Brown's panel on Friday focused on accepting a deanship and the key first steps that follow. He was joined by Dean Sophia Z. Lee of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and Dean Richard Moberly of University of Nebraska College of Law, with Dean Leah Chan Grinvald of UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law moderating.

The two-day workshop helps aspiring deans and law school leaders decide whether and when to pursue a deanship, prepare as candidates, and navigate the transition into the role.

Thank you to Dean Mark Alexander and Villanova Law for hosting. by @templelaw

"You have more options than you think you do."

That's Hannah Long-Bohorquez, LAW '29, on what she wants Temple students to know as another year of off-campus living begins.

The Tenant Rights Help Service grew out of the Access to Justice Clinic, taught by Sheller Center for Social Justice program coordinator Prof. Len Rieser, where students developed it and continue to run it. Long-Bohorquez and John R. (Rossi), CLA '19, LAW '27, are among those who have staffed weekly office hours at Temple's Essential Needs Hub, helping fellow Owls understand their leases and their rights as renters.

"I still think like an anthropologist, and I suspect I always will."

Hilary Symes, Ph.D., a Beasley Scholar and evening J.D. candidate in the Class of 2027, earned her doctorate in anthropology at Temple before law school. In a new Voices post, she writes about carrying that training into legal scholarship, and about the year she spent collaborating with Professor Evelyn Rangel-Medina on an article about birthright citizenship and the Fourteenth Amendment, published in The Georgetown Law Journal.

She also describes what the finished page doesn't show: the abandoned ideas, the unexpected turns, and the Supreme Court deciding Trump v. Barbara while the piece was still in edits.
