Celebrate the Season at Kress Contemporary

The holiday season will be here before we know it — and now is the time to start planning your fall and holiday gatherings at Kress Contemporary!

Located in the heart of historic Ybor City, The La Pasionaria Loft (Passionflower) at Kress Contemporary offers a unique, art-filled setting for celebrations throughout October, November, and December.

The La Pasionaria Loft features a balcony overlooking historic 7th Avenue, along with access to our beautiful open-air courtyards — giving your guests plenty of room to gather, mingle, and enjoy one of Tampa’s most distinctive neighborhoods.

Whether you’re planning a company holiday party, cocktail reception, fundraiser, birthday, anniversary, community gathering, or something completely your own, we welcome both private and public events.

La Pasionaria is also a great place to ring in New Year’s Eve. Celebrate above 7th Avenue and put your guests right in the middle of Ybor City’s restaurants, bars, nightlife, and New Year’s Eve energy.

Kress Contemporary is more than an event venue. Our historic building is home to galleries, working artist studios, cultural organizations, and year-round arts programming, giving your guests an experience that feels distinctly Tampa and distinctly Ybor City.

Look at this clean slate. It’ll probably never be this clean again. PRINTMAKERS, COME SEE WHAT’S HAPPENING AT KRESS PRESS!

Join us for a Kress Press Social + Open House on Friday, September 18 at 6 PM at Kress Contemporary.

We’re launching a new Resident Printmaker Program and looking for 10 printmakers interested in having an ongoing, meaningful presence in the lab.

Come see the space, check out the equipment, meet other printmakers, have a drink, and learn more about what we’re building.

Resident Printmakers will have regular access to the lab, opportunities to teach workshops and private classes, connect with visiting printmakers through the Kress Contemporary Artist Residency Program, and help shape future workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions, and programming at Kress Press.

The Resident Printmaker Program will be application/membership-based, and we’ll share more information about applying at the Open House.

Visit Kress Contemporary on Third Thursday (Aug. 20 from 5 to 9pm) to enjoy a building-wide arts open house, featuring literary performances throughout the evening.

Author Paul Wilborn and actor Eugenie Bondurant will perform a series of readings from Wilborn’s 2026 novel, The Everlasting Life of Charlie Wall.

Based on a real-life Tampa mobster, the book explores Wall’s life of crime as both a love story and mafia adventure, brimming with humor and heart.

Catch performances at 7pm and 8pm in the second-floor Kress Room!

This program is held in conjunction with the current exhibition at Tempus Projects — Oh, Cuore
Mia (“my heart”) is a love letter to Ybor City, an exhibition exploring the past, present, and future
of a historic district in constant transformation.

Other Third Thursday highlights include an exhibition by Jon Seals in the New Visions Art
Lounge, an exhibition by Kress studio artists in the third-floor Wujcik Gallery, the soft launch of Palimpsest book studio, and more.

An author, professional musician, and award-winning journalist, Paul Wilborn is currently executive director of the Palladium Theater at St. Petersburg College. He lives in St. Petersburg with his wife, the actor Eugenie Bondurant, whose film career includes leading roles in The Hunger Games (Mockingjay Part 4), and Marvel’s Werewolf By Night.

The Everlasting Life of Charlie Wall earned a five-star review from IndieReader, which called the
book “surprising and brilliant.” Wilborn’s debut novel, Florida Hustle, earned a starred review
from Kirkus and was named one of the “Best Indie Books of 2022” by Kirkus.

A two-hour photo essay with images I made of streets, art and friends at the ‘Pool Party’ and preview for the @tempus_projects opening reception at the @kress_contemporary

Full disclosure — I have work in this show which spans 6 decades of Ybor City. It’s an honor.

“Ybor City arts nonprofit Tempus Projects’ latest exhibit is an ode to the city that shaped its artists.

A press release says that in “Oh, Cuore Mia” (“my heart”)—opening tomorrow during Third Thursday at Kress Contemporary and running through Sept. 17—artists “reflect on and reinterpret Ybor narratives shaped by migration, labor, resistance, and reinvention in this group exhibition curated by Tempus Projects, with guest juror Jenn Ryann Miller.”

While promoting the show with photographer Dave Decker on WMNF’s Art In Your Ear last week, Tempus Projects founder and creative director Tracy Midula emphasized that the show is less about nostalgia and more about how Ybor City’s history and cultural aesthetics influenced local artists.

The show features artwork—photography, video, poetry, screenprinting and more—and vintage ephemera from more than 20 local artists including Decker and Midula. One of those works is a vertical documentary on the sunset of Crowbar. The film, “Sacred Space,” was created by Tampa filmmakers Tyler Riggs and Aaron Hurley, for their production company Lofty, along with Decker. Riggs’ “God’s Waiting Room” took home awards at Tribeca Film Festival in 2021.“ @rayroa

Oh Cuore Mia + Tempus Projects Summer Pool Party
Summer is in full swing at Tempus Projects, and we’d love for you to join us for an evening that celebrates art, community, and the people who make our work possible.
On Saturday, July 11, we’ll be hosting our Summer Pool Party Fundraiser, a laid-back evening filled with good company, hamburgers and hot dogs generously provided by Lara, frozen drinks, music, and a few surprises. We’ll also feature live screen printing by Cave Printing with limited-edition designs by artists including William Downs, Jujmo, and Duke Riley, a BYOV (Bring Your Own Vinyl) listening session in collaboration with DJ Madusa and Poolboy, and an exclusive first look at our newest exhibition, Oh Cuore Mia.
Oh Cuore Mia (My Heart) is a group exhibition exploring love letters to Ybor City—through memory, place, history, and personal connection. The exhibition brings together artists whose work reflects the many ways a city can become part of our identity, revealing stories of affection, nostalgia, resilience, and belonging.
The ‘Pool Party’ serves as the exhibition’s sneak preview before our free public opening reception during Third Thursday on July 16.
As always, proceeds from the fundraiser directly support Tempus Projects’ year-round exhibitions, artist residencies, public programming, and opportunities for emerging and established artists.
