Every day, thousands of people walk the streets without realising what’s rising above them.

Hovering over the streets is one of the world’s largest engineered-timber structures.

From up here, the building looks out across Sydney’s ever-changing skyline.

A remarkable piece of architecture, hiding in plain sight.

FORM, FUNCTION & FLAVOUR | MECCA COFFEE

A study in thoughtful design, materiality and exceptional coffee at @meccacoffee's newest home on Foley Street, Darlinghurst.

Designed by @killingmattwoods, this intimate, cave-like retreat draws inspiration from the Australian landscape. Rich earthy textures, sculptural forms and a striking Pilbara red stone counter create a space that feels both grounded and contemporary. The craftsmanship of Alco Joinery brings the interior to life, while sculptural feature lighting by @domusvim introduces warmth and a beautiful sense of atmosphere.

More than just a beautiful place for coffee, Foley Street reflects MECCA's commitment to quality, craftsmanship and genuine hospitality. A space to slow down, discover something new and appreciate the details, whether that's in the cup or the architecture surrounding it.

A pleasure working with @meccacoffee to document this beautiful space through the lens of @studio.hyperfocus, celebrating the interplay of light, materials and the thoughtful work of everyone involved.

REVERIE / MOSMAN.

Brickwork made for morning light. Captured at sunrise, Reverie’s facade takes on a golden warmth, with low sunlight revealing the texture of the masonry, reflections across the glazing and palms catching the first light.

Its arches and handcrafted brickwork reference the neighbouring Mosman Art Gallery, connecting contemporary residential architecture with the character of its setting. It’s this relationship between material, detail and context that drew us in.

There’s another side to BIANCA that reveals itself beyond the architecture.

Set directly on Drummoyne Bay, the residences are shaped as much by their outlook as they are by their design. From the water and harbour beyond, to sweeping views towards the Sydney skyline and Harbour Bridge, the surrounding landscape becomes an integral part of the experience.

BIANCA speaks to a different kind of luxury - one defined by its connection to place.

Shot from the above, these images are less about the building as an object and more about the life, landscape and outlook that surround it.

This week I had the pleasure of spending some time with Mika, documenting his process of working with bronze and, more specifically, the patina that gives each piece its character.

It’s fascinating watching bronze move through its different states. From molten liquid to solid, then heat, acid, oxidation and layer upon layer of colour.

Patina is essentially nature, accelerated. What would normally happen slowly through years of weather, light and air is coaxed into existence by hand, through a much more deliberate process.

What looks like a single beautiful surface is actually the result of hours of repetition, instinct and careful control - the acid mist from the spray, flames catching the bronze, the subtle changes in colour and texture as each layer reacts.

Mika calls it painting with time.

Watching him this absorbed in the process, it’s easy to see why. by @tempusvisuals

I’m not saying filming for someone else killed my passion.. but it definitely tried.

3 days a week, for 3 years I worked for another studio while running my own business, and for a while it was amazing! I learnt a lot and loved the people I worked with, but it got the point where I did it purely for financial stability.

I thought only working for them 3 days a week would give me the time to work on my business.. what I didn’t realise was how mentally unavailable I was because of that job.

The second I put in my resignation I realised how much more I could do and how far I could go. I wasn’t spending my days off worrying about someone else’s business anymore.

The day after I handed in my notice everything changed.

I went from months of barely finding the motivation to get out of bed in the morning to being up at sunrise and feeling on top of the world. (keeping in mind I was still working 7 days a week so no change to my schedule yet)

I filmed for the fun of it again, I felt the spark for the first time in a while. I immediately felt the joy I used to, but as a grown, more experienced version of myself.

Don’t get me wrong, I think working for someone else is absolutely fine and sometimes necessary, but I think what’s important is knowing when it’s time to move on.

Bianca, Drummoyne.

Beautifully designed by SJB and built by Trescon, it sits on the edge of the peninsula, where the architecture meets the harbour.

We spent the morning documenting the project, looking at the intricate details, materials and geometry of the residences, but also the way they sit within their surroundings.

The changing light, the harbour vistas and those long views back towards the Sydney skyline all became part of the story.

Captured across both photography and video, this was less about documenting another building and more about capturing its sense of place.

Huntley Street Recreation Centre.

Architecture that changes with every shift of light.

Designed by @collinsandturner for @cityofsydney, this adaptive reuse project transforms an industrial warehouse into a contemporary community destination. Every material, junction and surface has been carefully considered, revealing new textures and details as the light moves throughout the day.
