DDA is honored to present @springhilltenn with $50,000 in Senior Center Grant funding.
Grant funding will be used for capital improvements to Spring Hill Community Senior Center, including new flooring both upstairs and downstairs, and alleviating plumbing issues throughout the space. Right now, the Senior Center serves more than 1,000 members across Williamson and Maury counties. A group of people is holding a large check. The check is from the Tennessee Disabilities & Aging and is made out to Spring Hill Community Senior Center for fifty thousand dollars. The setting appears to be an office or community room with chairs in the background. by @tennessee_dda

It was a THRILLER of a performance at the Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center.
The @jacksontnseniorcenter presents 'Ladies of the Mop' and a special encore dance featuring Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Performers ranged in age from 67 to 91, showcasing their dancing, singing, and acting chops!
The center is just one of the 122 senior centers in the state awarded grant funding this year by the Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging. We can't wait to see what they do next!

Each year, the Johnson County Senior Center challenges the Johnson County High School to a pickleball tournament to benefit the senior center! This highly competitive tournament is a great way to stay active and bring the community together for a good cause.

...And for the fifth year straight....the Senior Center players took home the trophy! Congratulations, Johnson County Senior Center!

This month’s episode of State of the Workforce focuses on creating meaningful employment opportunities for Tennesseans with disabilities. Hear from Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging Commissioner Brad Turner about the importance of employment, workplace support and helping people with disabilities build greater independence in their communities.

The episode also features Levi Armstrong, a Stockdale’s employee in Paris, Tennessee, and Lorena, a Medicaid Alternative Pathways participant who is building workplace and transportation skills while working at McDonald’s.

This October, we're recognizing the value and talent that make up the Department of Disability and Aging!

Every October, we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which highlights the positive impact of people with disabilities in the American workforce. DDA's Communications intern, Caroline, from @lipscombideal snapped photos of our Central Office staff as part of the #HireMyStrengths campaign, which encourages everyone to think about the incredible value they bring to the workplace. We're celebrating Dolly Parton Day by highlighting a senior center with a very special connection to the Tennessee legend and philanthropist! 🦋

The My People Senior Activity Center in Sevierville is a magical place with Dolly in just about every part of it. In 2016, Dolly named the center for what she fondly called her neighbors in the area, "My People." From then on, she's made contributions and even popped into the center to chat with folks and put on a mini concert!

However, the biggest blessing came shortly before her passing. Dolly quietly donated $1,000,000 to go toward the expansion of the center, which will be called the Robert Lee and Avie Lee Gathering Place, in honor of her parents.

We love seeing Dolly's generosity touch the older adult community. Senior Centers play such a vital role in keeping people connected to resources and to each other. Dolly understood that importance! 🩷 by @tennessee_dda
