A random reminder: you can only do your best.

Maybe life isn’t exactly where you thought it would be. Maybe the challenges in front of you feel bigger than expected, and you’re being asked to stretch in ways you didn’t anticipate.

Sometimes you rise to the occasion and discover something in yourself you didn’t know was there. Sometimes you learn where your limits are. Both are valuable.

This next season of my life is about discernment—learning what deserves my energy, what I can change, and what I have to release.

I can’t control where every chip will fall.

I can just keep showing up, keep learning, and do my best with what’s in front of me. Recently I’ve been quietly learning to play organ and the imposter syndrome keeps from sharing, but hey, be still my soul. I’ve also learned that I will always hate the face I make playing any instrument ever, I’d play with a paper bag over my head if I could. taken in Miami, Florida by @tenortantrum

I want a page of this aria from the piano/vocal score tattooed to my side. I’ve talked about it for years. I quit singing after being sexually harassed by three music professionals and lost myself. When I decided to come back to singing years later this was the first aria I was assigned by my new teacher, then. It feels befitting that I randomly make my way back to this gorgeous music singing about stars, the moon, and love, all during an eclipse/full moon and this eerie feeling of something finally…dying? A chapter ending? A season changing? It’s queer and I can’t put my finger on it, but I’ve never been more proud of the way I sound or the person I’ve become, and like I’m pushing past something on the inside. Here we go again, with Roméo, again. Some music just has a way of following you and being there for you like a friend when you need it most. Super grateful to that new teacher, 16 years later, he’s like my second father and angel, and he’s built a wonderful community of singers in his studio that push me to be better just by being their brilliant beautiful selves. More of this, please. So. Much. More. Nights. Like. These. Please. ❤️‍🔥 I humbly present my performance of ah! In the last two weeks I had five performances, one of which was a TV experience, another the installation of a new exhibit at The Betsy Hotel and Orb of Edouard Duvall, all while recovering from illness and still being the social king/muscle queen wannabe I am. I’ve shared amazing moments with friends, made so much art for stress relief from making so much music, witnessed my students level up, my friends kill it on stage, my man get promoted, made new friends, got closer with old ones- like what hasn’t happened?!?! Lion’s Gate Portal/Eclipse season got my head spinning! I’m grateful for this full life! taken in Miami, Florida by @tenortantrum

There’s something about August that always feels like an exhale.

After MMF—where it felt like I’d been dropped onto a treadmill already sprinting at 10 mph—the quieter rhythm has been a welcome gift. I’ve found my way back to old friends, good music, colored pencils, and evenings spent under the Buck Moon.

Somewhere in all the movement, the two-year anniversary of my fitness and nutrition journey quietly passed. Students are trickling back into town and lessons are filling the calendar again. Others are packing for college, and we celebrate the end of one chapter (and the beginning of another) over drag brunch.

Life has a way of carrying us from season to season before we realize we’ve crossed another threshold.

I’m just grateful I get to drift through all of that change with Lulu beside me. 🥰 taken in Miami, Florida by @tenortantrum

I’m grieving a little with the conclusion of MMF this summer. I met and worked with a lot of children, all alongside @evelynsaavedrasoprano , @ivanite , @bellagiraldez_26 , @bryanccorral , and I learned so much. I adored those kids almost as much as they exhausted me. In that time there were anniversaries, birthdays, deaths, births, performances, and just general life. My head is spinning and my heart is full, all with the hugs and tears from the goodbye’s of the students still caught on my shoulder. I never thought this summer would be such a wild ride, I’d do it all over again, tho. taken in Miami Beach, Florida by @tenortantrum

It’s a gift making your partner happy on his birthday. I had so many plans last week trying to make it special and of course life happens- complete with newborn babies and deaths in the family- reminding me why every birthday is so important. I’m so grateful for Lulu, all the things we overcome, and the beautiful life we’ve made and the chosen family of friends that came together to show love on his 30th. Man did I learn a lot! Apparently I can bar b q for the GAWWWWDS 💅🏻, apply eye shadow, and matching outfits with my husband isn’t so bad after all. taken in Wilton Manors, Florida by @tenortantrum

“Your lips are like a tiny rosebud—soft, delicate, and impossible to ignore. I can’t stop thinking about them. Give me a kiss, and I’ll give you one in return.” 😘 Do you remember your first kiss? That’s what I thought of while performing- tho I’m not kissing girls anymore. (🤭 HAPPY PRIDE!) This song is so playful and sweet, like candy- it had me grinning from ear to ear while singing. Catch me at the next Orchestra Miami concert celebrating the Art Nouveau movement this June 13. March and April brought a very real 1099-worker fear that I wouldn’t have enough work for the month of May.

Then, out of nowhere, work fell from the sky — and not just hard work, rewarding work, too.

This month I sang six gorgeous Arte Nuova pieces with Orchestra Miami, performed a Memorial Day Celebration with Miami Beach Classical Music Festival, complete with projections all over Ocean Drive, sang lovely spring recitals, did birthday flash mobs, and most rewarding of all, closed out Shrek the Musical as my first Music Director gig for a production

I got to know and love 30 kids, their teacher, and their parents — people I already miss seeing twice a week.

There have been MANY times I’ve thought about quitting the arts for all the obvious reasons and getting an office job… but how could I ever do anything else when my life feels this full of joy, meaning, and reward?

Also, I got on a kayak for the first time ever and loved it (and contrary to popular opinion, I DID paddle and contribute 😂), I went to a rave with my LITTLE BROTHER for the first time, met his lovely girlfriend, and absolutely threw down 🕺I went to a video game-themed party and, in a sea of Marios, was somehow the only Princess Peach 👑🤣 and I started a relationship with the Adult Activity Center of Coral Gables so my students and I can perform there again

My head is honestly spinning from all the life this once-sparse-looking month brought me. I’m deeply grateful.

And now the next two months I get to work with children again at Miami Beach Classical Music Festival, sharing the arts I love and helping young singers grow through them.

I can’t wait. ❤️ Im wunderschönen Mai 🥲 taken in Miami, Florida by @tenortantrum
