The Tenth District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and the Rainbow PUSH Coalition celebrated the birthday of the late Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. on Saturday, Oct. 10. They hosted a STEM Fest and Youth Leadership Conference at Rainbow PUSH headquarters in Chicago’s Kenwood neighborhood.

Jesse Jackson was a Spring 1960 initiate of Pi Psi Chapter and a graduate of North Carolina A&T. He founded Rainbow PUSH(@rainbowpush) and spent decades creating opportunities for young people through efforts like the PUSH Excel youth program.

Chicago-area students started the day at PUSH’s weekly Saturday forum. They then joined Omega men for a conversation on civic engagement, where they were encouraged to connect with their school boards, alderpersons and congressional representatives. After that, students rotated through hands-on sessions in bridge building, environmental science, smart home technology and water filtration.

According to @wbezchicago, the conference came days after the fraternity and Rainbow PUSH announced a new partnership in Jackson’s honor. The partnership aims to renew youth and community programming at the coalition.

The Tenth District gave a special thank you to Rev. Bobby Lewis, Chief of Staff of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, to Brother Sagnia, and to the brothers and community partners who helped bring the vision to life.

THE TALENTED TENTH MAKES HEADLINES! 📰

Our work is making news — and more importantly, making a difference!

The Chicago Sun-Times has featured the Tenth District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and our partnership with the Rainbow PUSH Coalition following Saturday’s Omega S.T.E.M. Fest and Youth Leadership Conference.

Held during our historic 90th Fall Council, this initiative represents more than a weekend of programming. It reflects our enduring commitment to Scholarship, Uplift, and the continuation of the legacy of our beloved Brother, the late Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.

From hands-on science experiments to meaningful conversations about civic engagement, our young people were challenged to think, explore, and envision their futures.

We extend our appreciation to the brothers, organizers, educators, volunteers, and community partners who made this possible.

The Talented Tenth is not simply gathering. We are making an impact.

Today, we stand with the Jelani Day Foundation as family, friends and supporters gather for the 4th Annual All Black Gala.

Nearly five years ago, 25-year-old Illinois State University graduate student Jelani Day disappeared. His body was later recovered from the Illinois River, but the circumstances surrounding his death remain unanswered.

Out of unimaginable loss, Jelani’s family chose to build something that would help others.

The Jelani Day Foundation works to ensure that families searching for missing loved ones—particularly missing persons of color—have access to the resources, advocacy and support they need. That work includes helping families conduct searches, navigate law enforcement, engage the media and access therapeutic services.

Tonight, that mission takes center stage with nationally renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump serving as keynote speaker.

But at the heart of everything remains Jelani.

His name. His life. His family’s determination. And a question that has never gone away:

What happened to Jelani Day?

As we support the Foundation and the families it serves, we continue to say his name and stand behind the pursuit of answers, equity and justice.

💜 Justice for Jelani.

ABC 7 Chicago recently spoke with Jelani’s siblings, Dacara Bolden and D’Andre Day, about tonight’s gala and their family’s continued fight for justice.
