When life gives you lemons you make lemonade. When someone can’t tell a papaya from a mango… 🤦🏼‍♂️ you make Smoky Papaya Rum Punch! They taste super and pair perfectly with the world famous Baja Shrimp Tacos. Good grub after a day loading a couple hundred rounds of training ammo and swimming a mile. Likely the last batch of shrimp this year, time to switch to cold weather fare. I’ve been debating whether to post this but it’s just too good to pass up. Hot weather means cocktails and lighter clothing. That requires adapting to less bulky kit. The P365 just about disappears given its size. A little rib tickler by Laci Szabo just in case. Drink is our riff on the Zogg’s. Watermelon vodka, lime juice, agave and grenadine. Dubbed the Jolly Rancher because it tastes just like one. Even better pool side. Some lighter snacks to go with it, including some EVOO from a recent trip. Gratuitous food p0rn, part 2. Moving in reverse, after dessert, now the main dish. Fish tacos, fried mushrooms and sotong, or calamari for you non-Bahasa speakers. Even better when you caught them yourself (not the sotong…). Forgot to capture the ‘fixins’ - butter tortillas, cole slaw and Da Sauce, a mix of mayo and ศรีราชา, Huy Fong Sriracha. And beer. Finally completed one of the projects. Tiles collected over several years at flea markets and little antique stores overseas. Wasn’t sure it would work but now a removable panel so if we have to move again, we can take it with us. Never did tile work and nervous about working with some that are hundreds of years old… had to remove old plaster and not all the same size. Purposely left the older ones sticking out compared to the new ones to accentuate them. Pretty pleased with my handiwork. Keeping the troops fed ain’t easy. 2 gallons on homemade spaghetti sauce containing 2 large onions and 10 Italian sausages removed from their casings. Gone in under 48 hours along with 3 lbs of spaghetti. Dagwood Bumstead turkey, cheese, avocado and tomato sandwiches. Merely lunch. Heavy breakfast - in 10 days, 6 lbs of bacon and 4 dozen eggs just for breakfast… they have grown to like international food: 2 gallons of Moong Dahl with Malay Paratha. Dinner for one evening. Satay Ajam with Kerupuk. No leftovers. Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, 2 onions, 4 bell peppers and 2 lbs of roast beef. Actually lasted 2 days.
