Graduated from the Fêtes de Bayonne. ❤️🤍

Haters will say the red isn’t Basque enough… and that my foulard is probably tied the wrong way.

Hard to believe this was already my third Fêtes de Bayonne!!

Three years ago, I didn’t even know it existed..

Year one: Showing up during the day, slightly confused, trying to understand the chaos..

Year two: I had friends to celebrate with and proudly made it… until midnight. 😅

Year three: somehow ending up at a street bar in the heart of the city, nobody wanted to go home, the bartenders cooling everyone down with a water hose, and all street squeezed to sides when an ambulance was passing through...

People often think it’s just crowds and drinking. To my own surprise, I’d say it’s a bit more than that.

It’s the camaraderie. You arrive with friends and you rely on each other cos once you lost them, good luck 😅 yet somehow anyone can become part of your evening. The random conversations, unexpected encounters, and the strange magic that makes a whole city feel like one big neighbourhood…

Once you enter the Bayonne tunnel, it’s kind of hard to find your way back out 🙈

Unlikely to rave parties - music stops at 2 am 🙌🏻

And yes…coming from a country where red carries a very different history it still takes me some moment to adapt this tradition 😄

No worries, friends back home—I haven’t joined a communist party or the Pioneers.
