🌬️ MALAIKA

Beautiful impressions captured by the outstanding photographer Francesco Spina of our concert last Friday, 25 September, at the Conservatorio di Reggio Emilia “A. Peri – C. Merulo”, in collaboration with Icarus Ensemble. ✨

We performed music by Fausto Romitelli, Mirela Ivičević, Arnold Schönberg / Anton Webern, Davide Spina, and Daniel Serrano.

Many thanks to our wonderful audience and to the entire Icarus team for this fruitful and inspiring collaboration! We are very happy to meet again on 12 November at the Arnold Schönberg Center as part of Wien Modern. 🎶

Our next concert will take place on 16 October at 18:00 at the Klangtheater of the mdw, under the title Echoes of Tradition, featuring music by Ainolnaim Azizol, Thatchatham Silsupan, Tee Xiao Xi, Reina Yoshioka, Tanawat Naruepai, ChieTsang Lee, and Daniel Serrano.

See you there! 🌿🎵 by @teresadoblinger

Day 2 | March 15 | 19:00 | Klangtheatre at Future Art Lab, mdw

beyond frames/
Ensemble N – Audrey G. Perrault, Teresa Doblinger @ensemble__n @audrey.flutewien @teresadoblinger

Our project starts from Roman Haubenstock-Ramati’s graphic score frame. We treat it both as a musical work and as a frame in a broader sense: the framework of contemporary music and performance that we use to legitimise what we do, and within which we usually move quite safely.

In beyond frames, ensemble N take this frame seriously and then begin to stretch it. In the Klangtheater, the visual frame of the score is transferred into the space as a line that runs around the audience. It marks a clear border: inside / outside, artwork / world. The musicians first stay close to this border in a reading of frame, and then slowly step over it. Through performance concepts and guided improvisations developed by Teresa Doblinger, they start to cross, leave and redraw the frame: musically and physically.

The festival theme “Dirty Hands” comes in where this border becomes porous. Instead of treating new music as something abstract and “clean”, the project insists on contact: with the room, with the audience, with the material reality of playing together on a warming planet. Sounds get rougher, gestures less polished, traces remain in the space. The piece asks what it means to accept that our artistic work is not outside the ecological crisis, but part of it, and how we still choose to act, listen and take responsibility within that awareness.
