The Muslim Council of Scotland extends its sincere thanks to Police Scotland for their continued efforts to maintain law and order in Glasgow. At a time when our city is proudly hosting the Commonwealth Games and the world is watching our conduct, unity and moral standards matter more than ever.

While recent incidents have understandably caused concern within Muslim communities, we recognise that many people of colour, diverse communities, and people of all faiths and none may also feel anxious or unsettled. Everyone has the right to feel safe and protected, free from fear, intimidation or hatred.

We stand together with communities, institutions and authorities in rejecting hate and division. A small number of individuals promoting harmful rhetoric do not represent Glasgow or Scotland. Those who seek to spread hatred must be held accountable and face the full force of the law.

Glasgow’s strength lies in its diversity, its shared values, and its commitment to mutual respect. We will continue to work with partners across the city to ensure that these values are protected and upheld. by @termz1uk
