🗳️ Happy National Voter Registration Day!

Democracy starts with a simple step: being registered to vote. Today, thousands of organizations across the country are coming together for one shared goal: making sure every eligible voter can make their voice heard.

At MDI, strengthening democracy is at the heart of what we do. That starts with making sure registering to vote is easy, clear, and open to everyone.

So take a minute today:
✅ Check your registration status
✅ Update your address if you've moved
✅ Help a friend or family member register too

A stronger democracy starts with all of us showing up.

Terps, are you ready to vote this year? We’re here to help you register, check, or update your registration so that you’re ready to be a voter and take part in National Voter Registration Day! Visit umd.turbovote.org to easily register/update your registration & for more information.

• Here are some points to keep in mind if you are registering in the state of Maryland:

- You must be a U.S. citizen
- You must be a Maryland resident
- You must be at least 16 years old, and at least 18 years old by the next general election

• Here are some reasons why you might need to check or update your registration status:

- If you’ve recently moved/changed your address since you last voted (i.e. do you want to vote using your college park address or your home address?)
- If you’ve changed your name since you last voted

With the midterm election approaching, a group of UMD instructors recently met with representatives from @terpsvote to learn about how they can support and encourage their students to vote this fall and throughout their lives.

The 13 instructors, representing nine colleges, schools and campus units, were part of the third cohort of the professional development program Civic Engagement Across the Curriculum at the University of Maryland. The program supports instructors as they incorporate civic learning into their courses in nonpartisan ways.

Anderson Harlor '29 and Keith Ferguson of TerpsVote shared several ways instructors can help students make voting a natural part of their lives:
🔸Connect voting to issues that matter to students, like cost of living and inflation.
🔸Help students navigate the voting process in practical ways, such as by including Election Day and other key dates on the course syllabus.
🔸Make voting social by emphasizing how it connects to relationships and belonging, as people work together to address community issues.
🔸Encourage all students—even those who are not eligible to vote in U.S. elections—to be civically engaged, such as by participating in student government, attending city council meetings or staying current on the news.
