Natalia, @painted_by_natalia has selected some of her own photographs of Corinth, Greece for the current #landscapeartclub challenge The focus for these subjects is the use of leading lines in creating a landscape painting. Like others, I have chosen to crop the subject, placing it just off centre and trying to emphasise the natural contours and land shapes to give lines leading to that central area which is sunlit from one side. Once again, thanks to Natalia for providing these lovely images This is my usual #watercolour approach and is #LandscapeArtClub209. #corinth #artistsoninstagram I’ve included my cropped version of the subject and the original photograph by @terry_cambs

My #watercolour version of Lake Bled, Slovenia for @landscapeartclub This is #landscapeartclub208 challenge using a photo taken by Natalia, @painted_by_natalia who organises @landscapeartclub The challenge and the thing that attracted me to this photograph was the mass of summer tree foliage; so not a focal point for me, it was more of a focal area. Back from a great paddling holiday on the Soca river in Slovenia and now trying to catch up with my artwork in the middle of a heatwave. Here’s my #watercolour version of the #landscapeartclub challenge hosted by @painted_by_natalia and using one of her photos of Riva del Garda, Italy. The challenge subject is the relationship between nature and architecture. The original image is of bright flowers in front of a bright door and wall which I’ve attempted to link by inventing a cast shadow from the flowers over the architectural elements. This is the Calvert house, near Mt. Rubidoux in Riverside, CA, a Spanish Mediterranean-style residence built in 1926 known for its unique, historic architecture. I’ve seen a few lovely versions of this, and it’s got a tower, so thought I would have a quick attempt. It’s my usual #watercolour painting. Thanks to Marina, @watercolorbymarinav for choosing this lovely house for her #drawcaliforniamv challenge series.
I’ve just finished packing and am now about to head out on an initial 20 hour road trip to Slovenia where I will also be”riverside” for the next couple of weeks as I attempt to paddle/kayak the beautiful Soca river; wish me luck…… I may be away from Instagram for a while😊 by @terry_cambs

This week @landscapeartclub are visiting the beautiful Auckland Botanic Gardens in New Zealand, courtesy of Ida, @walkingnewzealand and Natalia, @painted_by_natalia who hosts this challenge series. This one is #landscapeartclub206 and the brief was to consider simplifying complexity while still keeping the richness and atmosphere of the scene. There are a whole series of amazing photographs provided by Ida of the warm evening sunlight. I chose to crop a very small piece of one photo to try and catch the sense of sunlight shining through the tree canopy and illuminating a path. There’s very little detail in this one which is my usual #watercolourpainting, but I’ve had some fun trying to Catherine atmosphere and even attempted a couple walking off into the sunset. Many thanks to both hosts. Not sure I achieved totally what I had in mind but I enjoyed trying😊 My second photo outlines the small section I chose to paint. #artistsoninstagram #dailypainter #itsabitrough by @terry_cambs

My #watercolour attempt at this week’s #landscapeartclub subject which is the towering cliffs and sea views of Étretat, Normandy, France. Thanks to Natalia, @painted_by_natalia for choosing this lovely but certainly challenging subject, and also @les_creations_de_gwladys , @les_photos_de_gwladys for the stunning photographs to choose from. Quite an overwhelming subject for me, so just a simple attempt to copy this landscape with something of the light and atmosphere of the place. I’ve been a bit busy lately ( exhibitions and trips to Wales), but finally got round to finishing off this #watercolour painting of a moored boat. It’s from a challenge by Bernard, @bernardsombret way back in February and is #bernardartschallenges55 many thanks to Bernard for these challenges and, of course for his round up of challenges tomorrow night. I’m now finishing packing before going to North Wales for a weekend of kayaking at the Welsh National Whitewater Centre, based on the lovely Tryweryn river-what could be better 😊 by @terry_cambs

My attempt at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, an immediately recognisable modern piece of architecture. The photo along with many others was provided by Judith, @judithcrowleyart with the aim this week of focusing less on details and more on what makes the structure so recognisable. This was for @landscapeartclub organised by @painted_by_natalia I started off with some lovely delicate washes of colour, but decided this needed a bit more of a dramatic look so found my Moonglow, and Shadow Violet (@danielsmithartistsmaterials ) and a blue, Cendre Bleu by Sennelier and ended up with my painting-I’ve got the shapes of the building but relatively little detail
, suggesting that by use of blended washes and granulation.

Landscape art club has taken us to the vibrant spring of Cadolzburg, which Natalia, @painted_by_natalia visited and collected the photographs for this week #landscapeartclub203 The photo I chose was actually in landscape format, but I selected just this slice which has a foreground of tulips and the buildings almost all in shadow, except for the view through the archway which was in full sunlight.
