It’s been so lovely having Lindsay Honorof and her gorgeous friends over from NY 🇺🇸

Lindsay’s dad Alan and our dad Colin met in around 1978 in New York and became the best of friends. Dad told us that they met in a YMCA (those were the days), and bonded over a love of swimming, sports and having fun. They adored each other and played a big part in each other’s lives, and each other’s kids lives over the years.

They regularly met up and swam, although dad would tease Alan because he wouldn’t go in the sea - he’d once watched Jaws and it had put him off!

Lindsay told us that our dad would always be there at her birthday parties juggling, despite her living in the states. We think he went over specially every year. And she said that he really felt like family. 💙

Alan knew me since I was a baby, and I remember seeing him hold court as a judge. I was very impressed. Lindsay does such an interesting job now, working for an organisation that puts on sports leagues across NY. We discussed how many friendships must have come out of the games. Given both of our dad’s love of organised sports, it seems like the most perfect job.

Our dad is currently doing a short stint in hospital for some tests (but is on good form and will be leaving very shortly), and a visit from Lindsay cheered him up no end. His eyes lit up when she came in, and we all had such a nice time telling stories and reminiscing about the past.

With Will Francome here too, we’ve had a good crew. We took a trip to Camden, and went to Oddballs, one of dad’s favourite shops, and bought him some new balls that I took to him. He was delighted and immediately showed everyone on his ward how he can still juggle (in fact the doctors were so impressed they thought some new medication was working wonders - we explained he would have been able to do this fine last week!)

The whole trip was a reminder of how friends can feel like family, how friendship can last across generations, and how even when an ocean separates you most of the time, tight bonds can form 💙💙 Hope to see you soon Lindsay! by @tess4189
