How trauma work helps repentance 👇

Why should Christians do trauma work?

Just because you’ve been forgiven, it doesn’t mean you won’t suffer the consequences of whatever happened.

These consequences can include low self-esteem, anxiety, depression and even addictive behaviours.

That’s because demons love to use our emotional wounds against us.

Trauma work helps us heal the wound and set things right.

Remember: The Church is a hospital for sinners — so make healing a part of your repentance.

3 ways Christians can begin to heal:

1️⃣ Confession — 🫂

Confession isn’t just saying things out loud for God to hear.

It’s confiding in someone (ideally Spiritual Father) so that all of the guilt, regret and shame from our soul may surface itself.

The deeper you are able to confess the darkness within, the more light can fill your body and unburden you from all that you’ve been holding onto for so long.

— especially those things you’d never imagine telling a soul. Cry it all out.

Not many are aware of this but psychotherapy found its roots Sacrament of Confession.

2️⃣ Forgiveness — ❤️‍🩹

The most powerful tool you have in your arsenal, but ONLY if done right.

“What do you mean done right?”

Forgiveness must go beyond the logical part of our brain.

Just saying “I forgive you”, will not undo the emotional harm caused.

Instead, forgiveness should be a deeply emotional process.

Even if you think you’re “over it”, the chances are there are still emotions that need healing.

To do this, picture the person who wronged you.

Now imagine, if you could only say one last thing to them, what would it be?

Use whatever comes up as the opener to a handwritten letter.

You’ll find that more and more of what you want to say begins surfacing itself.

Write it ALL down, INCLUDING those swear words and horrible things that you’d never tell them in person.

Do this until ALL emotion clears.

From here, accept the situation by trying to understand they themselves are a product of bad things.

Finish off the letter by forgiving them. Voila!

[Forgiveness letters should also be done for people YOU have wronged too]

3️⃣ Prayer & Repentance — 🙏

Repentance isn’t just about not making the same mistake again

But a deep emotional yearning to banish the evils from our soul that would have Christ crucified.

Through prayer we must allow ourselves to surface the emotional burdens of regret.

Only then can it begin to leave our system for our hearts to soften.

I don’t know about you but there’s something magical about pouring your eyes out while on your knees.

— God bless

1️⃣ Lust 👇
The biggest mistake that leads to our downfall

Is thinking we have conquered this sin for good.

Make no mistake

The demon of lust will seize any opportunity to return.

So remain watchful.

Even if you have remained abstinent for decades

This passion can strike in ways you may not expect.

Do not be so prideful as to think you have mastered for the plagued the desert fathers.

For you will be tested.

2️⃣ Pride
We often think of it as being boastful and cocky, but that’s not the full truth.

Pride is putting our will over God’s.

Fear of the future is an example of pride

Because if our trust is fully in the Lord, we should know that no matter what

All will be way.

Even some of the most humble saints

St. Paul, Paisios and Silouan struggled with pride until their last of days.

The more understand Christ, the deeper our contemplation of pride becomes.

But fear not —

So long repentance is continual

So is our transformation into Christlikeness.

3️⃣ Avarice
“If I were rich, I’d give freely to those in need”.

Yet as we accumulate wealth, something changes.

We begin to justify our attachment to money.

“I’m saving to grow my business so that I can give more”

“I’m saving for the future of my children”.

“I’m preparing for when the apocalypse comes”.

Yet it is today in which the day passed

And the stomachs of those in need remain empty.

Remember the Widow’s Mite.

Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury;

For they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.’”

— Luke 21:3-4

Those who have the least to give but do so anyway

Are blessed by the Lord.

For no greater faith is to give all that you have today

Knowing that come tomorrow,

The Lord will preserve you.

As the Lord said to a rich man who approached Him

If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.’”

— Matthew 19:21

Do this and your kids won’t be bullied.

More often than not, kids feel picked not, not because someone meant them harm,

but rather that they interpreted words as a form of rejection.

In most scenarios, this isn’t actually the case.

Name-calling is often used as a way of binding. Especially among boys.

Granted, there are many children that do it out of spite,

But by teaching your children to engage with it as if it were play, you are protecting them from feelings of rejection

That could otherwise manifest in low-self esteem and social anxieties later in life. by @testedman_
