Organizations like the Oral Health Foundation and the British Dental Association actively campaign on the “Spit, Don’t Rinse” message. Clinical trials comparing rinsing versus non-rinsing protocols consistently conclude that minimizing post-brushing water exposure significantly increases the anticariogenic (cavity-fighting) efficacy of standard fluoride toothpastes. #dentist #oralhealth #toothpaste #brushteeth #brushyourteeth taken in Houston, Texas by @texastoothfairy15

The sacrifices that help me maintain a healthy smile are usually not the sexy ones.

They’re just boring things that compound.

Comment your unsexy habits that are worth it!

Dentists know we are expected to do more, the job title barely scratches the surface.

We’re part mind reader, part therapist, part artist, part detective, part pain manager, part insurance negotiator, and somehow still looked at as the villain!

There is SO much that happens behind the scenes to keep a dental office running smoothly, and dentists deserve way more credit for it.

If you’re a dentist, what would you add to the list?

Closing your lips around the saliva ejector creates a micro-vacuum, similar to drinking through a straw. If the pressure in your mouth drops below the suction line, backflow can happen.

To keep everything clean and safe, the CDC advises keeping your lips relaxed and open around the tube. Let the suction do the work.
