For Ajmery, former student in the Master’s Programme in Fashion Marketing and Management, applying for an MFS scholarship was a natural progression of her academic focus. With a strong interest in sustainability and recycling within workwear production, she travelled to Bangladesh to examine challenges related to textile recycling and waste management. 👕♻️

Ajmery strongly recommends MFS field studies to other students, highlighting their value for both professional and personal growth.

A little glimpse into one of my weeks as an MA2 Textile Interaction Design student at the Swedish School of Textiles 🧵✨

1+2: Preparing weave bindings and seeing how the threads separate and interact in 3D 🧶
3+4: Making colour swatches 🎨 Testing different combinations and seeing what works best together.
5: Exploring different bindings and patterns for my project and seeing how they change the look and feel of the weave.
6+7: Weaving my designs on the Jacquard loom 🧵 It’s always exciting to see an idea come to life in fabric.
8: What I’m reading at the moment 📖 Interaction Design Foundations, Experiments by Lars Hallnäs and Johan Redström.
9: Fika time! ☕️ A coffee break at one of my favourite cafés in Borås, Bakgården. It’s close to the university, and they even have a student discount!
10: The bird graffiti outside the university 🦜 When I first visited Borås, I saw this bird and thought, “Maybe it’s time to spread my wings.” It feels so good to be here. That feeling has stayed with me and brought me here.
11: Autumn in Borås 🍂 Taking a break from uni, walking around and watching the colours of the leaves change every day.
12: Feeling grateful for a wonderful week at the university, full of learning, growth, meaningful moments, and new experiences. 🎓✨

One year in Borås!

When I first moved here, I had no idea how much I would learn from simply living and studying in a new place.

The changing seasons, the Swedish weather, discovering nature around the city, finding my routines at uni, and slowly making Borås feel familiar. It’s all become part of my everyday life.

A year later, here are a few things I’ve learned along the way 🤍

Come with me as I take you through the textile labs at the Swedish School of Textiles! ✨

When I started my Master’s in Fashion and Textile Design, specialising in Textile Interaction Design, I had the opportunity to choose the textile technique I wanted to dive deeper into. The options were weaving, knitting, sewing/construction, and print & dye.

I chose weaving. There’s something so fascinating to me about the way individual threads come together to create structure, texture, and seemingly endless patterns. I love how much possibility there is within such a simple principle: interlacing threads.

While recording this video, I was reminded once again what a gift it is to study in an environment like this, surrounded by so many materials, techniques, and possibilities.

What’s your favourite textile technique? Leave it in the comments. 🧶

What makes student life in Borås kind of chic? ✨

For me, it’s all the little things: fika between classes, enjoying exhibitions on campus, finding inspiration in the creative environment, experiencing the Swedish seasons, and being part of a university that puts sustainability into practice.

But maybe it’s also about those everyday moments that slowly make a new place feel like home. 🤍

Swipe through my take on the trend and a few of the things that make studying and living in Borås so special.

In April 2026, the United Nations and the Swedish School of Textiles at the University of Borås took the next step in their collaboration. In this phase of the project, the renowned design school Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, was invited to collaborate with students from the Swedish School of Textiles in designing new accessories to complement the UN Tour Guide collection.

Twenty Master’s students in Fashion Design – ten from each university – took on the challenge to
exchange ideas, perspectives, and approaches. Working together, they explored how designs
could build on the existing uniform collection while responding to the practical needs of UN Tour Guides.

The resulting collection will be launched during New York Fashion Week at the UN Headquarters in New York City on 14 September.

Funded by the Paul Frankenius Foundation, the project brings together the Swedish School of
Textiles and Central Saint Martins with the UN Office for Partnerships and the UN Department of
Global Communications. The course development at the University of Borås was supported by the Knowledge Foundation.

Hej! I’m Seline, from the Netherlands 🇳🇱

I’m one of the new student ambassadors, and I’ll be creating content for the University of Borås. I’m currently in my second year of the Master’s Programme in Fashion and Textile Design, where I focus on Textile Interaction Design.

I’m interested in giving textiles an extra dimension and exploring the possibilities of engaging with them through touch, texture, and form.

What I find so amazing about the Swedish School of Textiles is all the fantastic textile labs. From weaving, sewing, tufting, printing, and knitting to digital technologies and more, there is such a wide variety of tools and possibilities to explore, all supported by highly skilled teachers and technicians.

I can’t wait to show you around the university and give you some insight into all the interesting things happening here.

See you around! 🌞
