The Pitt (of despair).

Just realized I hadn’t posted a physical piece since January… and then the fact that I hadn’t even made a physical piece since January.

Oops.
I’m taking my digital art journey very seriously, that’s what I’m telling myself.

Anyways, enjoy the sad old man, my precious cinnamon roll.

We have Hudson, you know what that means is coming next. :))

5.5 hours total.
Final slide: 20 minutes in 30 seconds.

Me with my minimal backgrounds, oof. But baby steps. Next time I’m going to start scaling back and going for a more stylized look (I think, we’ll see).

FULL SHIRT REVEAL!!!

(UPDATE: see link in bio to purchase!!)

Note to self, photoshop skills come in very handy when trying to put 6 different scans together because your shirt design is too big to scan all at once.

The reception my process video for this has been receiving is literally INSANE, and I am so so honored to be feeling the love from this fandom.

The clique is truly the best and I’m so happy to be able to contribute a small part of it.

Power to the local dreamer!! And t-minus 16 days until my concert!!!

(art references from @jael.clag.art and others. Thank you to all the talented artists out there who inspire me daily)

DAREDEVIL DAMNED

digital painting, 2 hours

@aleksle.vo thank you for your art, in all its forms. This short is INSANE. Everyone go watch it right now.

Swipe to see just a couple of the hundred or so photos that my students have hidden around my room for the past 2 years after I mentioned Aleks Le ONE TIME.
(ok, maybe twice)

In honor of ResiWeekend, enjoy my recent mini charcoal studies.
First time making portraits in reductive process.

Reduction is where you cover the entire paper with charcoal and then erase to create your values and form.

Super fun! And stupid messy.

Secondhand Comfort
colored pencil, alcohol marker, paint pen
24”x18”
24 hours total

——
Made as the first piece in my series for my graduate drawing class.
This piece has been such a joy to work on. I pushed myself to go bigger and more detailed than I ever have before and each step felt like an accomplishment. What a privilege it is to continue to grow and learn.

This piece is titled Secondhand Comfort, and it is a literal and metaphorical representation of the comforts we find in our lives from small and often overlooked places: a hug from a friend, a pillow on a couch. We hold these comforts close and they get us through our days, but we couldn’t do it alone. We couldn’t do it without the sharing and connection that comes from those around us.
So I hope this piece serves as a reminder to enjoy the dinners with friends and the blankets your parents give you, and to continue the cycle- to pass on these secondhand comforts to the next person down the line.

WIP
colored pencil, alcohol marker, paint pen
17.5 hours
18”x24”

Prior to this piece, the largest colored pencil realism I had done was 11”x14” (and it was barely half filled). So to say I was intimidated is an understatement.
And then you put pencil to paper and you go for it anyways, and geez. It’s been so fun.
Even when I’ve worked through 2 pencils and my hands are cramping, it’s a joy to create and be able to grow when I do.

Excited for the next hours to come :))

End of August and back to school art dump.

A mixture of class examples and my own grad school exercises with a little birthday present snuck in the middle. :))
