Mommieye i can’t even believe this. i love you more than anything this world has to offer. you fought like a solider & you’ll forever be the strongest & prettiest person i’ve ever seen. now you’re finally at peace. you’re my heart in human form. hearing your voice while watching you smile is something i’ll dearly miss forever. making you laugh was like my daily life task. God took his time & made you so perfect so i understand why he wanted you fast. proud of the mark you left on this world. the kindest, sweetest, most caring & giving soul their will ever be. you’re my best friend, first love, & forever my everything. i’m so selfish momma i just want you 2 be physically beside me forever. you didn’t deserve that pain therefor you’re in my heart forever. thank you for giving me strength & life itself. thank you for never turning your back on me. i’m forever thankful to be able to call myself your son.
& i’m sorry you had so much to deal with i swear you never deserved any of it. like the soldier you are you never complained. no matter how rough life got at any point you took it to the chin & never stopped. my queen i can’t believe i’m even typing this right now. you’re forever on my mind & in my soul baby. i don’t know who i’m going to talk to anymore but i know i’ll still be able to count on you my angel. you ever take 3 L’s back to back to back?
you ever find your cousin lifeless… hanging from the ceiling, face swollen… & only reason you opened his door is 2 wake him up & try & clown as much as possible, but you can’t even process what just happened?

all while your mom in the next room fighting stage 4 cancer
and you can’t even tell her the truth cause you know it might take her out instantly

you ever have to stay composed cause all eyes on you
little cousins watching, looking up to you

even though we just lost our aunt, cousin, and my mom all in less than half a year
and somehow you still the one expected to keep everybody smiling

whole time nobody knows you waking up crying
not waking up then crying but opening your eyes with tears flying

only thing I ever wish for is more time
but I know that’s just me being selfish

it’s wins I wanna celebrate but it wouldn’t even feel right

man I’m a soldier
can’t nobody tell me nothing
& nobody should be able to tell you nothing

with that being said God willing imma forever keep it going
let everybody know this Ethiopian blood that run through me really means something

suicide can happen closer to you than you ever imagined.

sometimes it can happen in the palms of your hands.

Wehib was my cousin, but he was my best friend. we were raised as brothers. after losing his parents as kids, we were supposed to bring him to America, but circumstances beyond our control kept that from happening.

years later, my mom and aunt got sick, and we went to Ethiopia. Wehib was right there with me through it all. we stayed up rubbing my momma’s feet, helping her to the restroom, and just being there. they were parents to both of us.

one night, he asked me to go out. i didn’t want to leave my momma, so he went without me.

he didn’t come back that night.

the next day, he knocked on the gate. i hugged him and said, “aye big man, you’re back,” not knowing that would be one of the last moments i’d ever have with my brother.

later, i went into his room to joke around with him.

he wasn’t in the bed.

i looked forward and saw an image i wish i could erase from my mind.

i found my best friend. my brother.

that moment changed me forever.

i’m sharing this because suicide doesn’t always announce itself. sometimes the person laughing with you is fighting something you know nothing about.

check on your people. check on the strong ones. check on the ones who always say they’re good. check on the ones always laughing.

& if you’re not okay, please tell somebody.

Wehib was my cousin by blood, but my brother by life.
