🎓 Tezpur University Congratulates Research Scholar on Prestigious Inlaks–King’s India Institute Fellowship 2026

Tezpur University congratulates Ms. Monisha Nagbonshi, Research Scholar in the Department of Sociology, on being selected for the prestigious Inlaks–King’s India Institute Fellowship 2026. One of only two recipients of this highly competitive fellowship, Ms. Nagbonshi’s achievement is a matter of pride for the University.

Her doctoral research, titled “Plantation, Food and Identity: A Study of Adivasi Community in Assam,” is being conducted under the supervision of Prof. Amiya K. Das.

The three-month fellowship will enable Ms. Nagbonshi to access archival records and research resources at leading institutions in the United Kingdom, including King’s College London, the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Oxford, and the India Office Library.

As part of the fellowship, she will present her paper, “The Taste of Extraction: Olfactory Simulations and Counter-Sensing the Assam Tea Plantation Beyond Corporate XR,” at the Multisensory XR: From ‘Tech for Good’ to Ethical Immersive Experience Conference, to be held at King’s College London on 6–7 January 2027. She will also receive mentorship from distinguished scholars at universities across the United Kingdom and present a chapter of her doctoral thesis at King’s College London.

Adding to her academic accomplishments, Ms. Nagbonshi was recently one of only four scholars from India selected to participate in the prestigious 8th Journal of Peasant Studies International Writeshop on Critical Agrarian Studies and Scholar-Activism, 2026, held at China Agricultural University (CAU), Beijing, China, from 1–10 July 2026. She also participated as a Senior Visiting Student in the Development Studies programme at CAU’s College of Humanities and Development Studies.

Successfully conducted an awareness programme on Good Touch and Bad Touch at Guimari LP School, 1 No. Kaki. The programme aimed to educate children about personal safety, body boundaries, and the importance of speaking up against inappropriate behaviour. We believe that every child, regardless of gender, deserves to feel safe, respected, and protected.

An initiative by Proyakh Social Foundation in collaboration with the Chandraprabha Saikiani Centre for Women Studies.

📚 Tezpur University–Nanda Talukdar Foundation MoU to Strengthen Classical Assamese Research

Following the Ministry of Education’s designation of Tezpur University as a Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Assamese, the University today signed an MoU with the Nanda Talukdar Foundation (NTF) to strengthen research, preservation, digitisation and dissemination of Assamese language and literary heritage.

Under the MoU, NTF will donate its rich collection of books, journals and archival resources to Tezpur University. The collection, including rare Assamese publications gathered by noted researcher Nanda Talukdar, will provide an important resource for scholars working on Assam’s language, literature, history and culture.

The MoU assumes added significance following the recognition of Assamese as a Classical Language in 2024.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Chandan Goswami, Registrar, i/c, Tezpur University, and Shri Mrinal Talukdar, noted journalist and Secretary, NTF, in the presence of Prof. Amarendra Kumar Das, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ashim Jyoti Thakur, Dean, Academic Affairs, and senior University officials.

With the NTF collection complementing the University’s existing expertise, the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Assamese is poised to become an important national platform for scholarship on Assamese language and literature. by @tezpur.uni

Looking back on a deeply meaningful day at the Chandraprabha Saikiani Centre for Women Studies, Tezpur University.

A few days ago, we gathered for an essential interactive student workshop titled “When Life Feels Heavy: Building Skills to Cope, Connect & Carry On” to mark World Suicide Prevention Day. While the day has passed, the conversations, insights, and connections built during the session remain as vital as ever.

We were privileged to learn from Dr. Sobhana H. and Dr. Elamurugu M. from the Department of Psychiatric Social Work, LGBRIMH, Tezpur. Their guidance reminded us of the importance of changing the narrative around mental health and actively creating spaces where everyone feels heard and supported.

The workshop may have ended, but the commitment to look out for one another continues every day. Let’s keep checking in on our peers, breaking the silence, and building a community rooted in empathy and care.
