I completed my Master’s degree in Art History in 2010, and in 2011 I gave my very first opening speech at an art exhibition. I still remember how incredibly nervous I was.

This opening took place in 2012 at Künstlerhaus in Munich, in front of a large audience and with a great sense of responsibility for the Georgian artist a was speaking about.

Accidentally I started my welcome address with “Sehr geehrte Damen und Freunde” (“Dear ladies and friends”) instead of the traditional “Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren” (“Ladies and gentlemen”). Gender-inclusive language wasn’t really part of the conversation back then — but perhaps I was already trying to find my own way. 😉

I’ve given many opening speeches since then, but you never forget your firsts. ✨

Before we all head into the summer break, I’d like to share a project that will open this September and that is particularly close to my heart.

Supporting new artistic positions and fostering exchange between independent art scenes is more important than ever. I’m therefore delighted to present Enthusiastic Look, a group exhibition by Théo Bernal, Florian Becherucci, and Mymi Meski of Espace Lazzo, an artist group and artist -run initiative from Marseille. 🤍🤍🤍

Developed in close collaboration with the artists, the exhibition brings together three distinct painterly positions exploring immediacy of painting , portraiture, and the relationship between classical painting traditions and contemporary practice. At its core is a shared commitment to painting as a living language—one shaped by close observation and an enthusiastic way of perception and exploration

👀 Enthusiastic Look
📍 Studio D40, Munich @studio.d40
❗️Opening Reception: September 17, 6:00 pm

Exhibition Dates: September 17–26, 2026

I hope to see many of you there.

We are pleased to share installation views and selected works from the Kapurani Brothers’ @kapurani_bros_studio solo exhibition “Cinema Paradiso“ at Galerie Filser & Gräf.

Opening: October 10, 2025, 6 PM
Exhibition dates: October 11, 2025 – January 7, 2026

Beautifully captured by Hannes Rohrer @hannes_rohrer , the exhibition takes its title from Giuseppe Tornatore’s iconic film, reflecting on the transformative power of art. In their works, the @kapurani_bros_studio draw upon cinematic imagery as a departure point for exploring memory, emotion, and visual narrative.

My friend and studio colleague, Hope Bartley @hope_the_artist , has opened his first institutional solo exhibition in Steinfort, Luxembourg.

It was a pleasure to co-curate this exhibition and to write the accompanying text. Hope’s visual language and consistent dedication to his practice informed much of my writing. The research process also led me to discover remarkable Jamaican artists whose work and histories became part of the essay.

I’d like to share a short excerpt from that text:
„The boundaries between body and environment remain open. The figures do not stand in opposition to a landscape—they are embedded within it.The white dots emerge only in relation to the tonal structure of the natural tapestry. Their visibility is contingent upon the background, giving rise to a system of interdependence. This may be read as a metaphor for the human–nature relationship: existence does not appear as autonomous, but as relationally constituted.
This visual structure, which is characteristic of the entire Biophilia series, cannot be understood solely from a Western art-historical perspective. In 20th-century Jamaican painting, there are positions in which nature does not appear as an external environment, but as part of a spiritually and culturally shaped field of experience.

In the work of Everald Brown—particularly Bush Have Ears (1976) (Fig. 2)—human and plant forms are closely intertwined. A similar approach can be found in Mallica “Kapo” Reynolds (All Wonderful World, 1970) (Fig. 3) and in John Dunkley, Feeding the Fishes (c. 1940), where figures do not appear as separate from their surroundings, but as part of a permeated pictorial space in which the visible and the invisible intersect.

I’m not sure if I know anyone in Luxembourg, but if I do—and if you’re anywhere near Steinfort—I highly recommend visiting the exhibition. taken in Steinfort by @tgbartprojects
