NGC 6357, here is the head of the Lobster Nebula. The Lobster Nebula is an
emission nebula in the constellation Scorpio,
which is 8000 light years from the solar
system. It is a star formation area near the
Milky Way Center and contains a variety of hot,
young stars as well as gas and dust clouds.

..... on September 25.09 26, we were treated to a beautiful, sunny day, so around noon I found myself drawn back to the dome; however, the sky was quite turbulent, so due to seeing conditions, I was only able to observe at f/10.

160mm Baader D-ERF on a C8 + Baader, PST Etalon, 15mm Coronado block filter, UV/IR cut filter, ASI183MM Pro at an FPS of 40, 4% usage rate out of 5,000 images. AS4, Registax, PS, color processing in PixInsight.

Upgrade from Aristoteles +  Eudoxud on April 23, 2026:

The seeing was pretty decent on April 23, so I just had to give it a try with the ASI1600MM Pro on the Moon for the Details the ASI183MM Pro. The best video from each of the three sequences—both the overview and the detailed shots—was selected for further processing.

Overview image at f=4500, with the ASI1600 MM Pro, at -30°C, Baader RG610 filter, at -30°C, 8% frame usage rate from 2,500 frames.
Color from the Canon EOS 6D Mark II. Basic sharpening in Registax 6, PI + finished in Photoshop.

Detail image at f=4500, with the ASI1600MM Pro, at -30°, Baader RG610 filter, at -30°, 8% frame usage rate from 5,000 frames.
Color from the EOS Canon 6D MK_II.

Here is my result from the new M27 project:

I had actually planned to create a pure RGB image... but I just couldn’t resist combining the old, narrow-band data from 2010—specifically the Ha and [OIII] channels (taken with the Artemis 4021 camera at the time)—with the newly acquired data from the TouptekATR2600MC.

Data from Aug. 6–9, 2026:
64 x 300s with the ToupTek2600MC using the 2x2 + Antila Triband RGB Ultra filter and the CCD47 reducer at 0.67x on the 18-inch RC at f=3015. Guiding with the SXVH-16 on the OAG.

Data from July 2010:
Artemis 4021, Astronomik 7 nm filter, Ha + [OIII] at 1200 s each. C11 + ASA-2" reducer, f/8.

..... Messier 11, another gem for my Messier catalog from July 25, 2026, is finally complete.

It was discovered in 1681 by Gottfried Kirch and added to Charles Messier’s list in 1764. It is one of the most compact open clusters.

The name “Wild Duck Cluster” stems from a description by astronomer William Henry Smyth, who in 1844 compared this star formation to a flock of wild ducks in flight.

Hmm, even when I try to use plenty of imagination to see the “flock of wild ducks” in this, I’m afraid I just can’t make it work. I get the impression that back then, William was enjoying himself, observing through the telescope with a glass of wine in hand.......

32 x 120s with the ToupTek2600MC using a 2x2 + Antila Triband RGB Ultra filter and the CCD47 0.67x reducer on an 18-inch RC at f=3015. Guiding with the Loadstar X2 on the OAG.....

I, too, was busy on August 12, 2026, trying to capture the partial solar eclipse from my location here—take a look at the attached photo:
As recently as noon the day before yesterday, I was still really worried, because the sky was heavily clouded with veil clouds and cirrus.

Surprisingly—and all the more delightfully—the sky cleared up just in time for the spectacle, with quite decent seeing conditions and sky transparency, which I hadn’t expected at all given the low horizon height.
The general plan was to document the partial solar eclipse in H-alpha light (hydrogen line) using an SW 100/500 refractor + Baader Q-Turret Barlow, along with a D-ERF 70mm eyepiece and the PST-Comb, paired with the ASI183MM Pro.
Due to the low elevation of only about 6.7° in the northwest at the time of maximum coverage (about 88%), I was forced to observe the event from an office on the upper floor through an open window.

About the images:
A video sequence of 1,000 images was recorded every 3 minutes, with the high-speed camera capturing 25 frames per second to ultimately freeze the seeing. The best images (16%) from each video stream were then selected and combined.

..... It’s been almost 20 years now since I visited Namibia for the second time, staying at the HAKOS Farm and with the IAS. Back then, using my new SXV-H9 on a 160 Epsilon, I created the accompanying classic, the M8, which I’m now pleased to present in a new look following its redesign:

The open star Cluster NGC 6530 in the famous Mist M8, also called Lagoon Nebula, is located himself in the constellation sagittarius gr). The distance between the star cluster M8 and the sun is 4310 light years. The outer dimensions of the M8 star cluster are about 9 light years.

Telescopes: Takahashi Epsilon 160 F/3.3
Camera: SXV-H9
Exposure time: L = 20x10 + 7x30s, RGB 20x10s each
Filters: Astronomik RGB filters
